Career

Ross works on a wide variety of subject areas in the biotechnology, pharmaceutical and medical device fields. He has particular experience working on inventions involving immunology, cell biology, genomics, microbiology, cancer therapeutics and drug delivery.

Ross advises a range of domestic and international companies from universities and small start-ups, through to medium and large biotech and pharmaceutical companies. Ross is experienced in biotech patent drafting, global and European patent prosecution, conducting European freedom-to-operate assessments and European oppositions and appeals.

His background working both in private practice and industry has helped Ross to develop experience not only of managing large patent portfolios but also providing strategic advice concerning patent and SPC litigation, merger and acquisition due diligence and pharmaceutical product development, life-cycle management, clearance and launch strategies. Ross seeks to understand his clients’ commercial and strategic goals and tailors his intellectual property advice accordingly.

Ross also leads the team at GJE who are contributing to a consortium of service providers called N-site. N-site provides guidance for start-up life science companies and SMEs to help them navigate through the various legal challenges in setting up a new company. The consortium is made up of Tax advisors and cybersecurity advisors FTI, solicitors Taylor Wessing, insurance specialists Gallagher, pharmaceutical strategy consultants PharmaVentures, life Science executive search experts Virdis Group, and market access specialists MAP BioPharma. N-site has conducted multiple workshops around the country and has published over 100 guidance notes on various topics on their website, in addition to visiting a number of companies. Recently, in collaboration with MedCity and in response to the lockdown N-site has held a day of virtual clinics with bio/pharma companies, which was very successful. He has had significant involvement in the planning of activities and in coordinating preparation of guidance, having authored more than 10 guidance notes and spoken at all workshops. This initiative looks set to grow significantly in 2020 and beyond.
