In October 2017, Bond Dickinson LLP and US firm Womble Carlyle merged to form Womble Bond Dickinson (UK) LLP. The Newcastle team is led by Jeremy Smith and provides a wide range of corporate tax services with a focus on corporate and real estate transactions. In conjunction with the corporate practice, Smith advised AVX Corporation on various UK and foreign tax matters pertaining to the acquisition of the transportation, sensing and control division from the TT Electronics Group, and assisted the shareholders of Vocare with tax matters arising from its sale to Totally including share incentive arrangements. In the real estate space, he advised Akelius Residential on stamp duty, land tax and VAT matters pertaining to the acquisition of a number of residential property portfolios. Other areas of expertise include handling banking, restructuring and employment-related tax issues. Intrinsic Financial Services and the housebuilding company Taylor Wimpey are also clients.
