Senior Counsel and head of the private capital team within the firm’s private wealth department Helen advises on tax efficient wills and trusts, pre-death and post-death tax-planning strategies, including advising on death benefits under pension and life policies. Acts as a trustee for many family trusts and advises on trusteeships and trust management. Mainly acts for high-net-worth individuals and has a particular interest in cross border issues, issues affecting people suffering from physical or mental incapacity and in relation to end of life decision making. Helen is also a notary public.


Joined Wilkinson Marshall Clayton & Gibson as assistant solicitor in 1984 and became partner in 1988; merged with Eversheds and became head of private client department in Newcastle; joined Dickinson Dees in September 2000; partner, Bond Dickinson on merger 2013; partner, Womble Bond Dickinson (UK) LLP on combination in 2017; senior counsel, Womble Bond Dickinson (UK) LLP 2021.

Womble Bond Dickinson (UK) LLP’s private wealth team in Newcastle acts for high-net-worth private clients, trusts, wealthy entrepreneurs and landed estates. The team stands out with the breadth of its expertise which includes complex international cross-border tax know-how. Head of wealth David Dale, private capital lawyer Will Bonas, and Simon Kirkup, who acts as trustee for a number of significant landowning families, lead the practice. While renowned expert George Lyall retired in April 2022, the team boasts respected and experienced practitioners in Deborah Jude and Helen Tavroges. Managing associate Emily Pike has relocated to Edinburgh, but the Newcastle team has gained consultant Alison Bragg from Nicholson Portnell in July 2021.
