Partner, European and UK Patent Attorney

Career

Tom is a European and UK Patent Attorney with over ten years’ experience working in private practice for clients ranging from SMEs to multinationals, across all areas of chemistry. He has particular experience in small molecule pharmaceuticals, agrochemicals, and medical devices, as well as chemical technologies relevant to the electronics sector including organic light-emitting devices, liquid crystal displays, and secondary batteries. Tom also has an interest in sustainable technology and has worked with a number of cleantech firms in sectors such as biodegradable packaging for the food and drink industry and low emission vehicles.

Tom drafts, files and prosecutes UK and European patent applications, and handles large patent families across many countries. He also provides advice on freedom to operate and validity, and represents clients in oppositions and appeals before the European Patent Office.

He first joined J A Kemp in 2008 before leaving in 2015 to work elsewhere in private practice. Tom re-joined J A Kemp in 2019 and became a partner in 2021.
