Career

Anne Friedman focuses her practice on structuring and negotiating large scale sourcing and technology transactions, concentrating on global and domestic outsourcings in the areas of information technology, software development and maintenance, and business process outsourcing.

Her practice also includes drafting and negotiating transition services agreements in connection with M&A transactions, software licensing, integration and implementation transactions, hosting agreements, distribution agreements, related corporate transactions, and handling issues relating to data privacy, data security and intellectual property matters. Anne's experience spans all phases of a transaction, including the RFP stage, and contract development, execution, implementation and maintenance.

Anne has represented a variety of Fortune 500 and other large companies in various business areas, including financial services, general and investment banking, pharmaceuticals, health insurance, hospitality, food and beverage, mortgage banking, educational groups, and others. Providing pro bono legal services is also an important part of Anne's practice.

DLA Piper LLP (US) handles outsourcing arrangements in the software, insurance and media sectors and also assists governmental and public institutions with optimizing administrative operations. San Diego-based Gregory A. Manter advised Catalina Marketing Corporation on the outsourcing of its application development and maintenance services to Mindtree over a term of five years. The firm also advises the national police force of a Middle Eastern country in technological outsourcing negotiations. Other key individuals include Los Angeles-based practice head Vincent Sanchez, New Jersey-based associate Joanna Sykes-Saavedra and of counsel Anne Friedman, who also practices from the Los Angeles office. New York-based Praseeda Singh Nambiar joined as counsel in August 2018 from a consulting company.

  • Sentencing guidelines for corporate manslaughter

    In February 2010 the Sentencing Guidelines Council (the SGC) issued definitive guidelines to courts on imposing appropriate sentences for corporate manslaughter and health and safety offences causing death. The SGC states that fines imposed on companies found guilty of corporate manslaughter should not fall below £500,000, while fines in respect of health and safety offences that are a significant cause of death should be at least £100,000. Crucially, the SGC declined to provide for a fixed link between the imposed fine and the turnover or profitability of the offending company.
