Steffen is a partner in the Corporate group of DLA Piper's Moscow office. He has extensive experience advising international and local clients on a wide range of M&A transactions, including acquisitions and disposals, joint ventures and group reorganisations. Steffen further boasts a strong background in real estate transactions, green- and brownfield developments, construction projects and real estate finance. His client portfolio includes companies from various industry sectors including manufacturing, natural resources, banks, retail, transportation, pharmaceutics as well as real estate developers and investors.

DLA Piper Rus Limited is able to leverage expertise from its Moscow and St Petersburg offices to handle complex domestic and cross-border M&A, equity investment and venture capital transactions. High-value joint venture projects remain a key strength of the team; examples in this area include Julien Hansen advising the ADG Group on the establishment of a joint venture with South Korea’s CJ CGV, the fifth largest multiplex theatre company in the world. In other work, Igor Antonyan led a cross-border team that recently assisted NovaWind with a joint venture with Lagerwey, a Dutch wind turbine manufacturer, for the launch of the Russian wind energy programme. Leo Batalov, whose expertise includes M&A, securities and venture capital transactions, advised Yandex on the acquisition of FoodFox, a Russian online and mobile food delivery platform. Also of note are Kim Latypov and Steffen Kaufmann, who are dual qualified in the US and Germany, respectively. Denis Sosedkin heads the corporate practice from the St Petersburg office.

  • Sentencing guidelines for corporate manslaughter

    In February 2010 the Sentencing Guidelines Council (the SGC) issued definitive guidelines to courts on imposing appropriate sentences for corporate manslaughter and health and safety offences causing death. The SGC states that fines imposed on companies found guilty of corporate manslaughter should not fall below £500,000, while fines in respect of health and safety offences that are a significant cause of death should be at least £100,000. Crucially, the SGC declined to provide for a fixed link between the imposed fine and the turnover or profitability of the offending company.
