Mauricio Halpern concentrated his practice in Corporate Law, with special emphasis in Financing, Capital Markets and Compliance matters, advising numerous companies, domestic and foreign, in credit transactions, corporate and project finance (e.g. energy and infrastructure) and structured products. Also, considering his vast experience as an in-house lawyer, Mauricio has led the Compliance area of the firm, supporting clients not only in the development and implementation of regulatory compliance models, according to Law 20.393 and its successors, but also in the preparation of policies, procedures, reporting channels, risk matrixes and control panels, providing them with the best practices and market standards.
It has stood out by leading the processes of first issue stock placement, public offering of shares, bond issue and trade bills. Other matters in which he has actively participated, have been in strategic advice to boards of directors and senior management of open and closed corporations, both local and foreign, in addition to collaborating in corporate restructuring processes, dispute resolution and complex negotiation between shareholders.

DLA Piper Chile‘s broad practice is co-led by Diego Noguera and the recently promoted Mauricio Halpern (who can draw on his in-house experience of compliance management), and handles regulatory compliance assessments, compliance control mechanisms, the design of compliance programmes, criminal liability prevention models and compliance certifications. The practice is particularly experienced in compliance matters involving the forestry, mining and heavy machinery, retail, energy and publishing sectors. The team’s abilities are complemented by the firm’s active litigation department and the office’s recent initiation of a white-collar practice, led by counsel Ignacio Schwerter, who joined in September 2019 from Cortés & Rodriguez.
DLA Piper Chile‘s team is experienced in advising banks, financial institutions and syndicated club banks on structured finance and multilateral transactions, credit agreements, and banking regulatory issues. In project finance, it is particularly experienced in photovoltaic solar projects. The practice co-heads are Matías Zegers and Mauricio Halpern, who was promoted to the partnership in January (having returned to the firm as a counsel in 2017, after a period in-house), who act for both borrowers and lenders; key support comes from associate Vicente Vergara.
The experienced 21-strong corporate and M&A practice group at DLA Piper Chile consistently acts on sophisticated corporate transactions and due diligence processes, and has substantial knowledge of Chile’s investment environment. The practice has particular expertise in deals involving technology and energy and natural resources, among others, and is highly-regarded for its corporate governance and venture capital specialisms. Matías Zegers and Paulo Larrain co-chair the corporate practice group, which also includes energy and mining sector expert José Pablo Dulanto, Marco Salgado – who heads the corporate group’s media, sport and entertainment practice – and Mauricio Halpern, who made partner in January 2020. Additional support is provided by counsel Manola Quiroz and Jorge Timmermann, who was raised to the partnership in January 2021.
