Position

Suzanne is a Director in Cleaver Fulton Rankin’s Employment and Business Immigration Team, specialising in all aspects of Employment law.

Suzanne advises on a full scope of employment law matters and has successfully represented employers as well as professional individuals in employment and shareholder disputes throughout her career. Whilst possessing an expert level of legal knowledge, Suzanne also has a personal and practical approach to her clients’ legal problems, maintaining a commercially astute approach to advising clients.

Suzanne arranges and facilitates training programmes for businesses on key employment and HR matters.  She is also an experienced advocate and regularly represents clients at the Industrial Tribunal and Fair Employment Tribunal of Northern Ireland.

Career

Suzanne joined Cleaver Fulton Rankin as a Director in November 2021. She qualified as a Solicitor in 2011 and has considerable experience acting for clients on both contentious and non-contentious employment matters.

Suzanne has acted on a number of significant employment cases; she successfully represented the claimant in Leah McElveen v Chief Constable of the Police Service of Northern Ireland [4109/17IT] and again in Winnie Van Der Merwe v UHY Hacker Young Fitch Limited [1490/17IT].

Suzanne has provided media commentary on topical employment matters for the BBC and was recognised by the UK-Wide First 100 Years Project, which celebrates female trailblazers in law, as a Finalist in their 2017 Inspirational Women in Law Competition.

Suzanne is a member of the Law Society of Northern Ireland and the Law Society of Ireland.

Education

Suzanne graduated with an LLB BSc in Law and Economics from the University of Ulster in 2007. She also completed the IPLS Diploma in Professional Legal Studies at Queen’s University Belfast’s Institute of Professional Legal Studies.

In 2016, Suzanne obtained a Certificate in Advanced Advocacy from The Law Society of Northern Ireland.
