William W. Oxley, managing partner of Dechert’s Los Angeles office, is a trial lawyer whose clients trust him with their most important disputes. Mr. Oxley is a Fellow in The American College of Trial Lawyers, which is composed of the best of the trial bar and is widely considered to be the premier professional trial organization in the United States. Los Angeles-based William Oxley heads Dechert LLP’s product liability, class actions and mass tort department. Recent highlights include representing Japanese manufacturer Takata and its affiliates in relation to the high-profile airbag inflator recall, including over 100 class actions and personal injury matters. In other work, the team continues to assist longstanding client Pfizer with consumer products matters. Robert Heim in Philadelphia is also active in the sector.

The ‘knowledgeable’ team at Dechert LLP defends pharmaceutical and medical devices manufacturers in product liability litigation and consumer fraud claims. Led by Philadelphia-based Hope Freiwald, the team continues to represent AbbVie in national product liability litigation involving testosterone replacement therapy AndroGel, which allegedly causes a variety of injuries, including pulmonary embolism. The team is headed by William Oxley in Los Angeles. Philadelphia-based Ben Barnett and Nathan Hoffman in Chicago also active in the department. In May 2018, Sheila Birnbaum, Mark Cheffo and Douglas Fleming joined the firm’s New York office from Quinn Emanuel Urquhart & Sullivan, LLP.

Dechert LLP’s product liability and mass torts practice is particularly active in asbestos litigation. Led by Los Angeles-based practice head William Oxley, the team recently obtained two complete defense verdicts for Union Carbide in lawsuits involving claims alleging that exposure to products manufactured by the client causes mesothelioma. In other work, Chicago-based Nathan Hoffman and Erik Snapp continue to represent Pfizer in asbestos litigation. The firm’s client roster also includes Takata and AbbVie. Philadelphia-based Ben Barnett and Hope Freiwald are other names to note.
