Position

Mariam is a Senior Associate at Dentons’ Tbilisi office. She is a member of Banking and Finance team. Her work focuses on project finance, banking, capital markets and general commercial transactions. 

Career

Prior to joining Dentons she served as a senior associate in Georgian law firm BLB, since 2013. Prior to that, she worked as a legal advisor at the State Representation to the International Courts of Human Rights, at the Ministry of Justice of Georgia.

Vashakidze has significant experience in the areas of corporate law, mergers and acquisitions, real estate, investments and project finance, labor law and business disputes.

The 'strong and experienced team' at Dentons Georgia LLC advises clients on debt and equity transactions as well as energy, infrastructure and real estate financing. Avto Svanidze is an 'expert in banking and finance', and offers 'insight and advice on certain issues that other lawyers would not be knowledgeable about'; he recently advised Proparco on the Georgian law aspects of an $8.6m financing of hydropower projects. Svanidze also worked alongside managing partner Otar Kipshidze, who held the same position at DLA Piper Georgia LP until May 2017, in acting for Silknet on the $14m issuance of bonds listed on the Georgian Stock Exchange. Kipshidze is praised by clients for his 'market knowledge and quick responses to queries'. Associate Neli Tsivtsivadze is 'a pleasure to deal with', and her 'work product is of a high quality'; she was part of the team that advised Georgia Capital in connection with the issuance of $300m-worth of notes admitted to list on the Irish Stock Exchange. The corporate team at Dentons Georgia LLC works with international companies on matters including acquisitions, company reorganisation and competition law. Avto Svanidze leads the corporate practice, and has extensive experience in international M&A transactions. He recently led the team that advised Georgian telecoms operator Silknet on the $153m acquisition of Geocell, the second-largest mobile operator in the country. The team also included senior associate Irakli Pipia and associate Natela Otaridze, who both advised the Bank of Georgia Group on its reorganisation into banking and non-banking sector entities. Although working predominantly in the banking and finance team, associate Sopho Mebonia has assisted on shares transactions, including the $4m acquisition of a minority stake in a hydropower project company by Schulze Global Investments. Senior counsel Ted Jonas offers expert advice on potential joint venture agreements, while senior associate Mariam Vashakidze, formerly of BLB (Business Legal Bureau), focuses on project finance and commercial transactions.
