Career

Mr. Hartley has been working as a government relations consultant since January 2004 after working in government for 16 years. From 1995 to 2003, he served as Executive Assistant to Prime Minister Jean Chrétien. In that position, he acquired a solid mix of professional experience in intergovernmental and international affairs, strategic planning and crisis management, and an expertise in the operations and culture of government. This background enables Mr. Hartley to be an effective and successful advocate for his clients in their dealings with all levels of government at home and abroad. Since 2004, Mr. Hartley’s Ottawa-based practice focuses on helping clients navigate both executive and legislative branches. His client list includes a broad range of clients including high tech, mining, automotive, aerospace and foreign embassies in Canada. Mr. Hartley’s international practice has focused on mining, financial and oil and gas files in emerging markets (Africa, Asia, Central Asia and Middle East). He serves on the board of junior Canadian mining company with operations in Chile. Mr. Hartley is fluently bilingual in English and French. Mr. Hartley served as a board member of the Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario Foundation 2006-2011. He is a member of the World Affairs Council, Dallas/Fort Worth.
