Career
Derek Kurrant is a partner in our Calgary Tax Group. As a lawyer and a chartered accountant, he has practised exclusively in the area of taxation for over 20 years. His practice encompasses providing tax advice to public and private enterprises in respect of a wide variety of corporate and commercial transactions, including corporate reorganizations, mergers and acquisitions; structuring of public debt and equity offerings; the purchase and sale of businesses, and the use of partnerships, joint ventures and trusts.
Derek has significant experience providing tax structuring and transactional advice on various energy based projects and providing advice on taxation issues specific to businesses in the oil and gas and energy related sectors (including renewable energy and cleantech sectors). His practice also includes providing advice on international tax planning matters, including advising on tax effective cross-border acquisitions, divestitures and reorganizations; offshore tax structures; and tax planning for inbound investment into Canada by non-residents and outbound/offshore investment by Canadians.
