Career
Rachel is a partner in the firm’s Litigation Group and is also a member of Dentons’ National ADR Practice Group. She is called to the bar in Alberta and Ontario, and in 2012, Rachel obtained her LL.M. with a specialization in natural resources, energy and environmental law from the University of Calgary where her research focused on fair and equitable treatment in international investment agreements and Alberta’s regulation of oil sands royalties. Rachel’s dispute resolution practice focuses on energy, environmental and commercial arbitration and litigation. Her experience includes domestic and international arbitrations and litigation involving environmental issues, such as the abandonment and remediation of contaminated sites and landowner claims regarding water and soil contamination, along with breach of contract claims, issues of operatorship, joint venture obligations and accounting and audit rights. Rachel also advises clients on various forms of dispute resolution provisions and dispute resolution language for commercial agreements. Rachel has experience as counsel in shareholder disputes, product liability claims, professional negligence and liability matters and in defending defamation claims. She has appeared before the Provincial Court (Civil), Court of Queen’s Bench and the Court of Appeal of Alberta. Rachel is a volunteer with the Pro Bono Duty Counsel project at the Provincial Court (Civil) and with the Pro Bono Amicus project at Alberta Court of Queen’s Bench. She is also the Chair of Dentons Calgary’s Diversity Committee.
