Dr. Tim Heitling is a Partner in Dentons’ Berlin office and a member of the M&A / Corporate and Energy / Infrastructure practice groups.

Tim primarily focuses on regulated industries, namely the energy and infrastructure sector, including fiber networks and waste management systems. He advises domestic and foreign enterprises, sponsors, banks and financial investors with respect to M&A, joint ventures, projects and related financings.

With respect to the energy sector, Tim has extensive experience advising on generation assets (gas, coal, nuclear, renewables), e-mobility, storage, as well as transmission and distribution assets. Tim’s practice also covers advice on commercial contracts and regulatory issues, such as on unbundling, third-party access regimes, exemptions from surcharges and grid fees. He also advises on all stages of project developments, from early-stage structuring through financing and share or asset deal transactions to PPAs, particularly for renewable energy facilities and power plants.

Dentons baute die Energierechtspraxis mit den Transaktions- und Projektspezialisten Tim Heitling und Thomas Dörmer in Berlin, bis Juni 2020 bei Baker McKenzie, dem M&A-Spezialisten Michael Krömker in Düsseldorf (bis November 2020 bei Luther Rechtsanwaltsgesellschaft mbH) und Florian-Alexander Wesche, bis Dezember 2020 Spezialist für energieintensive Unternehmen bei Deloitte Legal Rechtsanwaltsgesellschaft mbH im März 2021 erheblich aus. Das Transaktions- und Projektgeschäft bleibt damit unter der Leitung von Thomas Schubert in Berlin Praxisschwerpunkt, wenngleich die regulatorische Praxis spürbar an Profil gewinnt, unter anderem in den erneuerbaren Energien und im Emissionshandel. Vorangetrieben wurde auch die Beratung zur Wasserstoffwirtschaft und Digitalisierung des Energiesektors. Der Fokus des Teams auf die Beratung von Finanzinvestoren wird auch über den Energiesektor hinaus sichtbar, beispielsweise in den Bereichen Telekommunikation und Abfallwirtschaft. Vorangetrieben wurde zudem die Beratung zur Wasserstoffwirtschaft und Digitalisierung des Energiesektors. Eingebunden in das weltumspannende Netzwerk der Kanzlei hat man 2020 insbesondere die Transaktionspraxis in Afrika ausgebaut.

Dentons significantly expanded its energy law practice with transaction and project specialists Tim Heitling and Thomas Dörmer in Berlin, who joined the team from Baker McKenzie in June 2020, M&A specialist Michael Krömker in Düsseldorf (until November 2020 at Luther Rechtsanwaltsgesellschaft mbH) and Florian-Alexander Wesche (until December 2020 specialist for energy-intensive companies at Deloitte Legal Rechtsanwaltsgesellschaft mbH) in March 2021. Transactional and project work remain the core focus of the team led by Thomas Schubert in Berlin, while regulatory advise is on the increase including matters pertaining to renewable energies and emissions trading. The hydrogen economy and digitisation of the energy sector are further growth areas. The team’s focus on advising financial investors is visible beyond the energy sector, such as in telecoms and waste management. Integrated into the firm’s global network, the African transaction practice too expanded in 2020.
