Position

Mary is a specialist family lawyer, practising collaborative family law and is an accredited family mediator. Mary increasingly works with clients in family dispute resolution processes out of court dealing with both children and finance issues. Due to Mary’s reputation and experience clients of medium to high-net-wealth choose collaborative law or mediation with Mary with confidence. Known for her innovative approach Mary devises and offers couples meetings about separation process options. She was actively involved in the creation of Resolution’s innovative Family Matters service. She is qualified to consult with children in mediation. Mary is a member of the Children Panel and regularly acts for children in care cases and complex cases concerning child arrangements. Head of the family law department from 1987, Mary has latterly concentrated on new projects including further development of the team’s out of court dispute resolution services. In July 2017 Mary won Lawyer of the Year in the Private Family (including mediation) category at the 14th LALY awards in London which was a huge honour.

Career

Trained Bindmans; qualified 1984; since 1989 partner and head of family department at David Gray. Resolution accredited mediator and specialist lawyer in the areas of advanced financial provision, private children law and domestic abuse, SRA Children Panel, 10 years’ full tenure on Board of Relate, Northumberland and Tyneside, chair of North East Collaborative Law Group.
