Testimonials

‘What makes the firm unique and different to firms I had worked with previously was that at every level Cripps made you feel that you mattered. They wanted to respond to your queries and get back to you with answers as soon as possible. Firms I had previously worked with made you feel you were an inconvenience or expecting too much. Cripps welcomed any correspondence.’

‘Cannot speak too highly of this firm. The team are friendly, engaging and an absolute pleasure to deal with.’

‘Vanda James was exactly what I wanted from a solicitor. She was understanding and strong. I felt like she wouldn’t be willing to settle or convince me to be more realistic. Vanda got to know my story and know what I wanted and what was best for the children.’

‘Helen Fisher was personable and articulate. Her attention to detail was outstanding and her guidance through an acrimonious divorce, dealing with my personal emotional roller coaster was balanced, settling and firm. Helen listened and took advice/guidance when she thought it was appropriate but stayed firm and resolute when she felt she needed to. I always felt this was in balance. She was always explaining processes or law so that I always felt I understood what was happening. I thought she was outstanding in how she worked with, and on behalf of, me.’

‘Helen Fisher’s works was just excellent – I couldn’t recommend her enough. She supported and guided me so professionally through what was a stressful, acrimonious divorce. Hard working and pragmatic, Helen Fisher is a credit to Cripps, always giving balanced advice, anticipating and advising on every next step, and developing situations expertly. Helen cuts through the detail efficiently, and gives clear, succinct information and advice every step of the way. Super bright and always so responsive – thank you for helping me through this really rough time.’

‘Alex Davies is the standout. I’ve known Alex a long while and knew early on he was one to watch. In a really competitive Family Law market he really does hold his own and is much in demand if the quality and volume of work he sends to chambers is any indicator.’

‘Simon Donald brings intelligence and humanity to his role. He cares about the outcome of his cases and focuses on achieving the best results for his clients but does so through the lens of objectivity that makes his work cost efficient and minimises emotional difficulty for the clients, too. His intelligence means that he sees right to the heart of the issues and his lateral thinking helps to resolve seemingly intractable issues. He is outstanding.’

‘They have an incredible strength in depth. Alex Davies has done an amazing job in building the team from the ground up to one of the top firms in Kent. The level of client they attract, the fantastic advice and client service they offer really is second to none!’

‘So personable and kind without losing their edge for a moment. Joanna Ford has been a guide and a rock throughout some very challenging times.’

The commercial advice was very positive and practical and not lost in legalese wording. Cripps positive responses to the two matters they dealt with for me were efficient, timely and effective in demonstrating that the claims was of no substance. For one of the claims, other national law firms were involved but Cripps was not overshadowed by them and took the lead in our response. The other major matter is that their fees were extremely reasonable and significantly lower than if I had used a London firm.’

Cripps Pemberton Greenish stands out for its estate management work, including leasehold enfranchisement, carried out for major London estates. Kerry Glanville is the key contact in this space; based in London, she co-heads the practice with Tunbridge Wells-based Miles Paffard, who handles a wide range of landlord and tenant disputes - another key strength of the team - and property-related insolvency. In the insolvency space, the team has acted for a number of estates requiring assistance with retailer CVAs, while, in other work, landowners instructed the team in Electronic Communications Code matters. Other clients include property investors, developers and high-net-worth individuals.

She is assisted by Anna Favre, Kerry Glanville and Sally Firby.

Testimonials

We are always impressed with the depth of knowledge in agricultural, estate and SDLT matters; they consistently demonstrate an investigative approach to conveyancing matters.

Their background of working for central London landed estates gives them an edge over competitors. They are still also one of the few firms who provide a full written report on title to clients and other professionals, which has been at times a life-saver.

Anna Favre is of particular note, being a “go-to” person for fast answers to complicated questions, particularly without having to go away and spend three days trying to find said answers. Also one of the few good speakers on leasehold enfranchisement who can give an engaging presentation on the subject. ‘

The Lex 100 Verdict

Cripps Pemberton Greenish offers ‘real and varied work’, many ‘high-net-worth clients’ and a ‘friendly office atmosphere’. Several trainees felt that the ethos of the Tunbridge Wells and London-based firm aligned with their own and chose the firm after ‘greatly enjoying the vacation scheme’. Cripps has been awarded two Lex 100 Winner awards for social life and work/life balance. Elaborating on the latter, trainees appreciate that their life outside of work is respected by colleagues but still enjoy ‘getting to work with leading individuals and interesting clients in a plush office’. ‘Everyone is approachable, regardless of their position’ and ‘excellent supervision’ is provided by engaging partners and senior associates. Despite some inevitable difficulties, such as IT issues, whilst working from home during the pandemic, staff at Cripps have ‘tried their utmost to ensure that we get the most out of our training as possible’. Recruits generally benefit from a ‘high level of responsibility on client matters’, although this does depend on the seat, and some trainees did experience ‘quiet seats where I had to frequently ask for more work’. Complaints centred on the remuneration, which is ‘on the low side’, ‘the difference in culture between offices’ and ‘having to choose all your seats before your training contract begins’, which is difficult to do when ‘you don’t yet have any experience of what the teams are like’. Best moments include ‘high-profile client meetings’, ‘receiving appreciation from clients’ and ‘three divorce matters settling in our clients’ favour within the space of a week – I felt on top of the world walking out of court on the final day’. To get ‘plenty of participation in client work’ from the outset, consider Cripps Pemberton Greenish.
