Testimonials

‘Cripps Pemberton Greenish have a broad range of teams offering the range of advice that one would expect from a medium or large firm. I have used many of these teams’ services over more than a decade working with the firm. What is consistent across all the teams, and a real point of differentiation between them and other firms I have used, is that the team not only offers clear advice (as opposed to a range of options and possible outcomes), but this advice is commercially-focused and specific to our business and circumstances. Where others have provided our company with general points based solely on the law, Cripps know our business, our marketplace and our people and the advice is tailored accordingly.’

‘Rhona Darbyshire in the employment law team is a great example of what makes Cripps such a pleasure to deal with. She will listen to the specific context of the query that we have, already know about our business priorities and then give clear advice that’s business-focused and pragmatic. She is responsive to phone calls and messages always responding in a timely manner.’

‘The team is knowledgeable, reactive and practical. An experienced, pragmatic lawyer is worth his weight in gold.’

‘The breadth of experience is critical and how this is applied to different circumstances. They make the effort to understand our culture and aims in order that the advice is best use in the particular circumstances.’

Cripps Pemberton Greenish fields a ‘great line-up of lawyers who understand the demands and intricacies of property development’. In particular, mixed-use developments and complication regenerations are the core focuses with the team providing input at all stages from planning permission and construction contracts through to letting and sales. Jason Tann, hailed as a ‘master of explaining the complex’, leads the development practice and also co-heads the investment offering alongside Stephen Hedley; their team targets institutional property investment companies, including pension funds, private equity funds and REITs, and is particularly active in respect of retail and hospitality assets. Oliver Morris fronts the corporate occupier practice which has a workload of relocations, new lease negotiations, refurbishments, premises acquisitions and lease exits, among others.

The Lex 100 Verdict

Providing 'both London-quality work and clients without having to be in London everyday', Cripps Pemberton Greenish is a 'a wide services firm away from the hustle and bustle of the City'. Based in Tunbridge Wells with a Chelsea office, Cripps is applauded for its 'location, work/life balance and level of responsibility as a trainee' with people at the firm described as being 'generally pretty friendly and helpful which makes a real difference when the work itself can be quite stressful and the days are long'. Trainees rate the firm's diverse seat offerings, quality of the client list and workload as well as its work/life balance. A trainee comments, 'I applied to Cripps because of the value the firm placed on people, really wanting trainees who would fit in with the culture. The vacation scheme showed me that everyone worked hard but had fun while doing it'. Due to the small intake size, the primary location in Tunbridge Wells and the 'friendly/approachable' firm culture, trainees commend highly the training programme. Respondents comment on the 'very inclusive and non-hierarchical culture, which I think is not the case at many firms', and in comparison with some others 'we get more responsibilities from the very beginning of our training contract. We run our own files and we have a lot of client contact'. Complaints focus on remuneration, 'the hours are often quite long and the pay does not quite match up to this,' as well as the pay scale difference between London and Kent trainees. Yet for a full-service offering in a friendly and approachable atmosphere with the ability to work in and out of London, Cripps Pemberton Greenish takes some beating.
