Slater Heelis LLP represents owner-managed businesses, individuals and entrepreneurs on contractual disputes, construction litigation and public law matters, as well as shareholder, director and warranty disputes and specialist tribunal work. Elizabeth Wilkinson now heads up the team after joining from MLP Law LLP in January 2019, succeeding former practice head Helen Brown, who moved over to Paris Smith LLP.
Slater Heelis LLP handles landlord and tenant matters for high-profile clients and is instructed on property transactions by investors. Residential development work is also a key area of focus for the department. Mike Fox handles complex landlord and tenant matters as well as site acquisitions and disposals; Zara Banday and Stephen Locke stand out for their experience in residential property transactions; Olajide Jay Lafinhan handles commercial and residential work; and Hannah Al-Shaghana is instructed by leisure and education sector clients. Will Henson in Manchester heads the team.
Slater Heelis LLP advises a wide range of clients including life sciences companies, charities, education, professional services, healthcare, veterinary and entrepreneurial clients. Sale-based Katharine Mellor is adept at handling M&A, reorganisations and partnerships matters, particularly in the SME and OMB space. Associate solicitor Richard Riley, who is also based is Sale, deals with software development, licensing and franchising. Simon Wallwork heads the team from the Manchester office. Family Tier 2
Slater Heelis LLP's family team, which 'packs a punch in the local market', handles a broad range of work including matrimonial finance and disputes involving children and property. Key clients include sports and media personalities, business owners with complex company structures, CEOs and high-net-worth individuals. Mark Heptinstall heads the family department and specialises in high-net-worth complex cases, 'fighting his client's corner without compromise'. Patricia Robinson is also recommended for her 'good judgement' on cases, particularly for difficult children disputes, and her work is 'always meticulous'.
Health Tier 2
Slater Heelis LLP has a 'cohesive team of specialists' and is best known for its ability to provide corporate and commercial advice to medical partnerships, dental practitioners and pharmacy owners. It regularly provides partnership advice for GPs and dentists, advises on GP mergers, and advises on the acquisition and disposal of pharmacy businesses, dental practices and health centres. Advising primary care sector clients on corporate governance is also a key area of expertise, as is property and employment work. Team head Nicky Collins is 'exceptional in combining a very professional but approachable persona' and Simon Wallwork handles acquisitions and disposals and has experience in the life sciences and bio-medical sectors.
At Slater Heelis LLP, managing partner Chris Bishop advises high-net-worth individuals on complex and high-value trust and probate disputes, with the wider team acting for clients including executors and administrators. Former team head Helen Brown left to join Paris Smith LLP at the end of 2018.
Slater Heelis LLP is regularly instructed on residential development matters and acts for a number of national developer clients; recently promoted partner Nicola Deutsch heads the residential property development team. The team, under the leadership of 'calm, professional and approachable' practice head Tracey Guest, has a strong reputation in the education sector, acting for schools, universities and teachers. On the contentious side, the department routinely acts for clients in the healthcare sector such as GP surgeries, dental surgeries and pharmacies.
Property litigation Tier 5
Slater Heelis LLP stands out for its ability to 'understand the client's business'. The team acts for UK and overseas clients on a range of residential and commercial property disputes. It is regularly engaged on advisory work, high-value disputes and landlord and tenant disputes. Recently promoted partner Daniel Stern heads the team. Chris Bishop is also a key figure.
Construction Tier 6
Slater Heelis LLP renders non-contentious construction advice across the real estate, hotel, civil and structural engineering and education sectors. The team is also adept at contentious matters and regularly advises on dispute avoidance as well as adjudication and arbitration proceedings. Consultant solicitor Kenneth Salmon is 'very experienced and knowledgeable' and associate Matthew Grellier, who is an 'effective communicator', heads the construction and engineering team.
