Nenad Kovačević is a partner at CMS Belgrade and a member of the Dispute Resolution team at CMS Belgrade and CMS Podgorica.

Career

In his practice, Nenad Kovačević focuses on dispute resolution where he offers comprehensive legal advice and representation in civil and white-collar crime litigation proceedings, arbitration proceedings, mediation, as well as administrative, enforcement, and non-contentious proceedings.

He has extensive experience as a legal counsel proving himself across various types of proceedings in a wide range of complex and high-profile cases, representing major companies active in the Serbian/global market before relevant courts and arbitration tribunals, providing legal assistance, drafting documents and legal opinions, conducting discovery, negotiating, and ultimately enforcing judgments and awards. Since 2019, he has served as the Co-chair of the Under-40 Section at the Arbitration Association in Belgrade, the founding entity of the Belgrade Arbitration Center.

In addition, he has broad experience with bankruptcy proceedings and reorganization of companies, having the interest of the clients he represents as his top priority.

Apart from that, Nenad is a seasoned legal professional specialising in compliance and brings a wealth of expertise to the realm of regulatory adherence and risk management, particularly in Anti-Money Laundering (AML), Counter-Terrorism Financing (CTF), white-collar crime, Ethics and Anti-Corruption, and Employment/Health and Safety Compliance. In December 2022, he was appointed Secretary General of the Corporate Compliance Association, the leading association for compliance professionals in the SEE region.

He is highly active in numerous Serbian/regional business associations, following the work of working committees on relevant legal regulations and Serbia’s EU integration process. He regularly contributes op-eds and articles on law, the legal system, rule of law, EU integration, and other current topics to the Danas, an independent daily newspaper published in Belgrade, and other printed and online media platforms.
