He s a distinguished expert in cross-border M&A transactions, compliance issues, capital market transactions and corporate finance. He worked as a lawyer in various international law firms (New York, London, Frankfurt) for eight years and for 20 years headed up as managing partner the Vienna office of Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom, one of the largest and most successful law firms in the world. At CMS Reich-Rohrwig Hainz, Rainer Wachter is Co-Head of Corporate Transactions and Head of the Compliance Practice.
He advises Austrian and international clients in cross-border M&A transactions involving parties in Austria, Central and Eastern European countries as well as the USA and China. He frequently represents private equity firms with regard to their investments in Austria and CEE. He also advises Austrian as well as international companies and governments on issues of corporate compliance and internal investigations. In the field of corporate finance, he represents banks and issuers in international capital market transactions and financings and here focuses on IPOs and acquisition financings. He has many years of experience with international arbitration proceedings, in particular investment treaty arbitrations.
He gained eight years of international experience as a lawyer (New York, London, Frankfurt) and headed the Vienna office of Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom as managing partner for 20 years. He is partner at CMS Reich-Rohrwig Hainz since 2013.
Admitted to the bar in Vienna, New York as well as England and Wales
He studied law at the University of Innsbruck and received an MBA from the Vienna University of Economics and Business. He also completed the post-graduate programme “Master of Comparative Law – M.C.L.” at the University of San Diego (USA).
