Career

She is leading lawyer in the Intellectual Property practice in VAHG. She is highly qualified on Appellations of Origin and Geographical Indications protection, specially for Tequila industry, supervising and protecting said Appellation of Origin across the world. She is acquainted at monitoring brands internationally and protecting brands and other intangible assets in Mexico and foreign jurisdictions. While conducting these activities, she is used to dealing with law firms around the world and understands different systems of IP protection.

Her expertise includes obtaining, analysis and interpretation of the information the Mexican Institute of Industrial Property (IMPI) holds to determine the feasibility of registration for distinctive marks in Mexico. For registration in other countries, she offers an extensive assistance, working in conjunction with foreign authorities in different jurisdictions in order to guide and support clients through their respective processes and where appropriate, provide the necessary guidance to complete the procedures. Likewise, she renders advice for all kind of trademark maintenance actions. She is responsible of obtain national or worldwide authentications.

Within the IP abroad area, she has wide experience and this includes handling of multiple cases that involve the IP rights protection before different authorities, such as international agencies in the United States, Canada, Malaysia, Thailand, Singapore, Hong Kong, Philippines, Ecuador, EUIPO, India, Indonesia, New Zealand, Russia, South Africa, Australia, Vietnam, Africa, Chile, China, Colombia, Paraguay and Argentina.

She is also specialized in the copyright protection, handling as part of her regular practice, the copyrights registry before the United States Copyright Office and Mexican Copyright Office, domain registration, utility models and industrial designs.

Mariana has participated in several international seminars of appellations of Origin and sustainable development; international protection for Appellations of Origin and geographical Appellations; international registrations; opposition procedure for trademarks before the IMPI, and has designed protection systems for international trademarks, certification marks, appellations and geographical appellations in international jurisdictions.
