The corporate team of the now-defunct Pacheco Coto remains intact at EY Law Central America following the merger of the two firms in January 2018. Ruby Asturias heads the corporate and transactional department and regularly advises international clients in the health care, energy and manufacturing industries; and manager MartĂ­n Barillas is known for his work in complex cross-border M&A transactions. Recent highlights include advising Bain Capital on the $3m acquisition of chemical-and-hygiene business Diversey from Sealed Air; and assisting Prosegur with its ongoing $15m acquisition of Grupo Almo, a Guatemalan private security company with a presence throughout Central America and Colombia. Senior associates Margaret Garza and Ginny Castillo are also noted.

EY Law Central America

EY Law Central America, which finalised its merger with legal partner Integra Legal in May 2017, is particularly active in white-collar crime litigation, regularly defending large corporations against allegations of tax fraud. In addition, the team conducts forensic audits and advises clients on anti-money laundering procedures, as well as fraud prevention and the correct processes for board meetings. The team is led by Enrique Möller Sánchez, who works with national and international clients in the consumer and retail, banking and electricity sectors, among others, with particular expertise in the valuation of intangible assets. Manager Fernando Rosales Gramajo specialises in dispute resolution and fraud; he is particularly active with clients in the retail and finance sectors.

EY Law Central America

With the absorption of Pacheco Coto by EY Law Central America in January 2018, the IP practices led, respectively, by Ruby Asturias and Enrique Möller were merged and now provide services that include not only the management of IP portfolios, trade marks and patent filings, prosecution and oppositions, and administrative and judicial defence of IP rights, but also demonstrates strength across IP-related transactional matters, including the valuation and treatment of IP assets and associated due diligence. A broad client roster ranges from start-ups to multinational corporations in sectors including consumer products and retail, food and beverages, pharmaceuticals, banking, real estate, hospitality and technology.

EY Law Central America

The January 2018 merger of Pacheco Coto into EY Law Central America has resulted in an employer-side labour practice that advises on both individual and collective matters, as well as occupational health and safety, immigration law, conflict prevention and labour litigation. Recent work has included labour due diligence and compliance, advice on corporate policies, labour agreements, labour terminations (including executive positions), and labour advice in connection with restructuring and M&A transactions. The team has also handled immigration issues, including the management of foreign employee portfolios in order to process immigration statuses and labour permits. Recent clients include multinationals in the pharmaceutical, industrial and security sectors, a large producer of palm oil and a leading global technology company, among others. Ruby Asturias and Oscar Pineda are the main contacts.
