Corporate/M&A Tier 2

EY Law Central America has been particularly active advising on cross-border M&A transactions across Central America, as well as the organisation of public-private partnerships in the region. Practice co-head Enrique Möller Sánchez specialises in advising local and international companies on modernising their corporate structures, corporate governance and compliance with Guatemalan corporate regulations. Ruby Asturias heads the M&A side of the practice, and has extensive experience acting for large multinationals, particularly from the healthcare, energy and manufacturing sectors. She and manager Martin Barillas advised a private security company on the acquisition of a business with operations in Central America and Colombia, and a multinational in the chemical industry on the high-value acquisition of another company.

Dispute resolution Tier 3

EY Law Central America handles civil, constitutional and criminal litigation, with a particular focus on white-collar crime and tax fraud cases. The team predominantly acts for large regional financial institutions, but also recently represented a coffee exporter and several producers of consumer products in tax fraud litigation. Practice head Enrique Möller Sánchez specialises in acting for clients in the retail, banking, electricity and regulated industries, and senior manager Fernando Rosales Gramajo has particular expertise in tax-related cases.

Labour Tier 3

Ruby Asturias leads the team at EY Law Central America, which counts a number of large international and regional companies among its clients, including Bayer, ThyssenKrupp, Reforestadora de Palmas del Petén (Repsa) and Corporación Multi Inversiones. The team advises employers on compliance with Guatemalan labour regulations, disciplinary actions and training, the employment aspects of M&A transactions, and immigration law. Manager Mirla Tubac is particularly active advising industrial and commercial companies such as retailers and restaurants. Oscar Pineda moved to Molina Mencos, Pineda y Asociados in February 2019.

Intellectual property Tier 4

EY Law Central America has extensive experience advising on the protection of IP rights in corporate transactions, as well as assisting with the filing of trade marks and patents, and handling prosecutions and oppositions. Clients come from the consumer products, retail, food and beverages, and pharmaceutical sectors, among others, and include Florida Bebidas and Industrias Alimenticias Kern'sThe team is led by Enrique Möller Sánchez, Ruby Asturias and senior manager Ana Rocío Beltetón, who has 12 years' experience in IP, IT and data privacy.
