The teams in Stockholm, Gothenburg and Malmö are led by Jörgen Axelsson (who is noted for 'his quick understanding and clear advice'), Fredrik Roos and Marc Tullgren respectively. Highlights included advising China Euro Vehicle Technology (CEVT) on a preparatory global investigation relating to the concept for Geely's new brand Lynk & Co, Axelsson handling the Swedish aspects of Harvey Nash's global GDPR project, and Johan Hallén assisting an e-commerce app with its establishment and go-to-market phase including procurement, financing, GDPR and licensing issues.
Banking and finance Tier 2
Setterwalls fields a team of 'highly competent and service-minded' lawyers, who are 'hardworking and reliable advisors with good technical drafting skills'. The group is jointly led by the 'fantastic' Åke Fors, Jesper Kuschel and Lennart Iwar, and is regularly engaged by foreign and domestic banks, financial institutions and corporate borrowers. Carl Lindencrona is also a key name to note, and the team was notably strengthened by the 2018 arrival of regulatory compliance expert Andreas Löfholm from an in-house role at PwC.

The 'reliable and accessible' team assisted Altigi with its acquisition by Stillfront Group; other clients include Aquila Capital, Skanska and FSN Capital. Setterwalls' practice is regularly instructed by national and international companies and public authorities, and handles matters relating to employment contracts, restructurings, terminations and labour disputes. The team also has notable expertise in internal investigations; practice co-head Åsa Erlandsson assisted The Swedish Social Democratic Party with an internal investigation after the speaker of the Swedish parliament was accused of sexual harassment. Other clients include TV4, Mylan and Dedicare. Fellow co-head Henrik Kjellander is also a key name to note. Dan Bullarbo left to establish Attorney Dan Bullarbo AB in 2018.
Environment Tier 2
The 'high-quality' team at Setterwalls regularly handles transactions alongside the firm's M&A group and is also experienced in regulatory matters and permit trials. The 'very good' Tove Andersson is noted for her expertise in permit processes and regulatory mandates; she recently represented Stena Renewable in multiple regulatory proceedings. The 'pragmatic and knowledgeable' Mathias Winge leads the team and is experienced in the manufacturing and real estate sectors; he recently assisted RE Education Holding with its bankruptcy. In a recent highlight for Setterwalls' group, Ulf Djurberg advised Stockholm County Council on the procurement of a core digital system for the health care organisations in the county. It also has significant expertise representing its clients before the national courts and the Court of Justice of the European Union. Martin Levinsohn and Sophia Spala are also names to note.
Real estate Tier 2
Setterwalls handles the full range of real estate matters encompassing transactions, commercial lease issues, real estate financings, tax mandates and disputes. The group, which was strengthened by the arrival of Patric Olofsson from MAQS Advokatbyrå in 2019, was recently involved in several complex projects for national and international clients. Team leader Åke J Fors, who specialises in ship finance and insurance issues, assisted the North of England P&I Club and one of its members as creditor with a Swedish bankruptcy relating to a damaged vessel. Tax Tier 2
Setterwalls' practice is 'very knowledgeable' and 'finds pragmatic solutions' and is led by Sören Brekell, 'problem-solver' Karl-Johan Nörklit and Christian Sjökvist in Malmö, Stockholm, and Gothenburg respectively. The team is often instructed by clients from the real estate, private equity and non-profit sectors; Nörklit recently performed a tax due diligence for Railcare relating to its listing at Nasdaq Stockholm. Setterwalls has a strong IPO and listing practice with notable experience in the life sciences sector. Jonas Frii advised Arise on a rights issuance of convertible bonds with preferential rights for existing shareholders, and Jörgen S. Axelsson assisted Instalco Intressenter with its IPO and listing on Nasdaq Stockholm. Frii and Axelsson jointly lead the team with Maria Dahlqvist; Marcus Nivinger is also a name to note. Senior associate Axel Helle joined from Advokatfirman Cederquist KB, while Anders Grefberg moved in-house at AMF Pension.
Construction Tier 3
Clients single out Setterwalls as 'professional, fast, and competent'; the practice has experience in the planning, procurement, implementation and monitoring of building projects and related construction contracts, as well as expertise in contentious issues. Lennart Iwar and senior associate Mattias Wiklund represented BTH Bygg in a compensation claim against its sub-contractor Benders for damages caused by delays and defects; the team's client portfolio also includes Skanska, NCC and Strabag. Iwar is the practice head in Malmö, while Anders Heintze and Hans Dahlberg Kolga lead the teams in Gothenburg and Stockholm respectively. Dispute resolution Tier 3
Setterwalls fields a large team of experienced lawyers, which handle a variety of disputes ranging from corporate and commercial proceedings to litigation in the IP and construction sectors. Practice co-head Hans Dahlberg Kolga represented Sweden’s public employment agency Arbetsförmedlingen in proceedings against CGI relating to the termination of a contract for the installation and operation of an electronic filing system. Group co-head Johan Strömbäck is recognised for his 'thorough and honest advice', and Johan Karlbom and Emma Fredberg are the key contacts in Gothenburg. Johannes Ericson and Magnus Rydberg were new arrivals from Hamilton Advokatbyrå in 2019.
EU and competition Tier 3
Setterwalls' expertise spans merger control advice, cartel investigations, compliance matters, public procurement and state aid work, and competition litigation. Practice head Ulf Djurberg is well versed in competition disputes, while Martin Levinsohn regularly acts for clients in merger control and antitrust matters before the authorities.
