A member or the Ibero-American Group for Compliance, Carey fields a small but experienced, four-strong compliance and anti-corruption team led by litigator Ricardo Reveco and corporate group co-head Guillermo Acuña. The practice typically assists clients with the prevention of corruption or money laundering, the negotiation of specialised contractual provisions, and the design of compliance due diligence processes for M&A, joint ventures and other transactional matters. Alongside the firm’s white-collar crime practice, the team also represents clients facing criminal enforcement actions, and has successfully defended legal entities and individuals in high-stake cases involving alleged bribery, money laundering and influence trafficking. Support at associate level is provided by the highly experienced senior Pablo Albertz, who joined the firm from Veracitas Compliance in 2017 and has a masters’ in criminal law. The firm has also been the Chilean legal partner of TRACE Anti-Corruption Bribery Systems since 2014.

Market leviathan Carey fields an impressive, 67-strong department that is a leader in structuring M&A deals. The practice advises a wide range of clients, such as multinationals, funds and foreign companies investing for the first time in Chile, along with local and Latin American companies expanding their businesses in Chile and across the region. In reportedly the largest M&A operation in Chile in 2019, Francisco Ugarte was part of a team that advised State Grid International Development on a purchase agreement for the acquisition of Sempra Energy’s stake in Chilquinta Energía (and its electric transmission and distribution subsidiaries) and Tecnored, as well as Chilquinta’s 50% stake in Eletrans companies.
