Guillermo heads the Antitrust, TMT and Public Law groups of BMAJ. His areas of practice are Telecommunications, Mass Media, Regulated Markets, Administrative Litigation, Unfair Competition, Intellectual Property, Public Procurement and Antitrust.


Guillermo previously worked for Isapre Fundación Bancoestado (1990-1996) and the Telecommunications sub-Secretariat (1996-2010), where as legal adviser he partook in some of the most important reforms to the internet and mobile telephony sectors, the definition of the digital TV standard in Chile and the rules on telecommunications antennas.




Guillermo is a member of the Chilean Bar Association.


Guillermo graduated from the Universidad de Chile Law School (1990). He holds a Ph.D. from Universidad Carlos III de Madrid, Spain (2008) and a Diploma in Economy and Finance for lawyers from the Economy and Administration School at Universidad de Chile (1997).

Bofill, Mir & Álvarez Jana‘s six-strong competition and antitrust team is led by TMT specialist Guillermo de la Jara. The group has been active in merger control matters, recently (particularly in the logistics, mining, consumer products, real estate, forestry and construction sectors); competition compliance; anti-competitive behaviour investigations; and associated litigation and civil claims. Co-head of the firm’s dispute resolution practice, Rodrigo Gil is increasingly involved in significant antitrust and unfair competition cases, while former FNE litigator Daniela Severin is the senior associate to note.

Former legal adviser to the Undersecretary of Telecommunications, Guillermo de la Jara is widely respected for his expertise in regulatory matters that involve the telecoms and media sectors. Founding partner Octavio Bofill is also experienced in technology, media and telecoms matters.

Bofill, Mir & Álvarez Jana‘s six-strong public law practice is well known for regulatory and constitutional matters across a range of sectors, including energy, telecoms, land development, public transport, water, environment, healthcare, gaming and advertising. In addition, the practice assists with judicial reviews, litigation before the constitutional courts, public procurement, and devising strategies to prevent legal infringements. Guillermo de la Jara co-heads the public law practice (as well as the TMT group), and his broad practice includes regulated markets, administrative litigation and public procurement. Bofill, Mir & Álvarez Jana‘s five-strong environmental practice area is an integral part of the firm’s full-service offering and is particularly experienced in advising on the interaction between environmental law and public and administrative law. The team has been active, recently, in matters involving environmental compliance, due diligence for major transactions, environmental litigation, water rights, and ongoing environmental advisory. Guillermo de la Jara leads the practice group, which also includes administrative and regulatory senior associate Cristián Franetovic.

Bofill, Mir & Álvarez Jana‘s energy practice area is a multi-disciplinary and six-strong team, led by natural resources partner Pablo Mir, that comprises members of the firm’s corporate, regulatory and dispute resolution groups. It primarily advises clients from both the conventional and non-conventional renewable energy sectors, including solar, wind energy, mini-hydro and geothermal projects. Also key to the department are Ana María YuriJosé Antonio Velasco, co-public law head Guillermo de la Jara, and arbitration specialist Rodrigo Gil. Former co-department head Rony Zimerman moved to Lembeye Abogados in April 2020.
