Guillermo heads the Antitrust, TMT and Public Law groups of BMAJ. His areas of practice are Telecommunications, Mass Media, Regulated Markets, Administrative Litigation, Unfair Competition, Intellectual Property, Public Procurement and Antitrust.


Guillermo previously worked for Isapre Fundación Bancoestado (1990-1996) and the Telecommunications sub-Secretariat (1996-2010), where as legal adviser he partook in some of the most important reforms to the internet and mobile telephony sectors, the definition of the digital TV standard in Chile and the rules on telecommunications antennas.




Guillermo is a member of the Chilean Bar Association.


Guillermo graduated from the Universidad de Chile Law School (1990). He holds a Ph.D. from Universidad Carlos III de Madrid, Spain (2008) and a Diploma in Economy and Finance for lawyers from the Economy and Administration School at Universidad de Chile (1997).

The six-strong team at Bofill, Mir & Álvarez Jana advises on access to markets, price distortions, anti-competitive behaviour and public procurement matters; has a growing merger-control practice and is particularly noted for its competition expertise in the agriculture, pharmaceutical, automobile and media sectors. Recent work higlights inlclude advising diversified financial services company  Bicecorp on FNE notification of its acquisition of the life annuity portfolio of Seguros de Vida SURA; and CCU on the sale of its holding in Nutrabien to Grupo Bimbo subsidiary, Ideal, a transaction initially rejected by the TDLC but subsequently cleared on appeal. Practice head Guillermo de la Jara , who has specialist knowledge of the telecommunications sector, can now call on the support of former FNE litigator Daniela Severin , who was hired from Gandarillas, Montt, Del Río & Krause  as a senior associate. Other clients include Enjoy, Grupo Copesa and Bayer.

Chile > Environment

Bofill, Mir & Álvarez Jana focuses on environmental compliance, due diligence and assessments, and environmental litigation and sanctions. Recent work highlights saw the five-strong team successfully act for Compañía Minera Nevada (CMN) in a constitutional action brought by a local community in relation to flooding that caused the destruction of CMN’s water management plant. Guillermo de la Jara and senior associate Cristián Franetovic are the main contacts. Key clients include Compañía Contractual Minera Candelaria, Mitsui & Co, Redhill Chile and Pacal Grupo Inmobiliario.

Chile > Public law

Bofill, Mir & Álvarez Jana‘s public law practice encompasses administrative, environmental and competition law issues, both advisory and contentious. Clients include Socicam, EMR Capital and Bureau Veritas Chile are clients; the team recently advised Brazilian transportation hub operator Socicam, and its Chilean subsidiary, on over 20 claims against a local municipality for issuing fines that violate bidding conditions. Guillermo de la Jara and associates Cristián Franetovic and Jorge Barrera are the names to note.

Bofill, Mir & Álvarez Jana‘s TMT sector experience includes the handling of regulatory issues, contract negotiations and TMT-related litigation; the group also works extensively on TMT projects with public authorities. Active clients include Televisión Nacional de Chile (TVN), Grupo Copesa, Globalsat Latam and Pacal Grupo Inmobiliario; the team recently assisted Chile’s state television broadcaster, TVN, with permit applications for the operation of satellite transmission data services from the Telecommunications Secretariat. Guillermo de la Jara and Octavio Bofill lead the team.
