Senior partner. Pablo Mir leads the Mining; Energy & Natural Resources practice area of BMAJ. His practice focuses on Natural Resources, Mining and Energy, and Public Works Concessions.


Pablo has advised several mining companies and mining investments banks in their projects in Chile, as well as in Argentina, Peru, Ecuador and Colombia. He led the team that obtained approval for the first exploration project under the Chile-Argentina Mining Treaty. He led the legal team that constructed the Gas Pacífico pipeline transporting natural gas from Argentina to the 8th Region of Chile. Pablo has participated as consultant to several work groups and commissions of the Chilean Government to improve mining and energy regulations. He is also a frequent speaker in international mining law conferences and seminars.

Pablo is a Member of the Rocky Mountain Mineral Law Foundation, theInternational Mining Professionals Society (IMPS), and the Latin American Mining Lawyers (AMLA). He is also a member of the International Bar Association’sSection on Energy, Environment, Natural Resources and Infrastructure (SEERIL), the Prospectors and Developers Association of Canada (PDAC). In Chile, he is a member of the Chilean Bar Association and the legal affairs commission of the National Mining Association (SONAMI).


Pablo received his J.D. degree, cum laude, from the Universidad de Chile.

The six-strong mining department at Bofill, Mir & Álvarez Jana is well-known in the regional market for leading transactions on behalf of a broad client base, including majors such as Sumitomo, listed, mid-size and junior companies, privately-held companies and local mining players. Despite a slowdown in new mining projects and a reduction in funding from investors, the firm has maintained a healthy portfolio of both new and ongoing work – such as its advice to Compañía Minera Cielo Azul on the acquisition of Project Marimaca, a large, open-pit copper oxide deposit. Department head Pablo Mir is a prominent figure in the sector who has profound mining expertise; a strong second line of senior associates comprises Felipe AllendeJoaquín Perez and the recently promoted Teresita González.
