Career
Co-leader of the firm’s Employment Services Practice Group, John focuses on management-side employment and labour, wrongful dismissal, human rights, constitutional and privacy law. He advises clients on employment contract and collective agreement interpretation and drafting, as well as employee terminations and down-sizing. John appears regularly before federal and provincial labour arbitration boards, courts and human rights tribunals. He has particular expertise representing federally regulated employers before federally appointed arbitration boards, the CIRB, the Federal Court and the Federal Court of Appeal. At the provincial level, John often appears before the Alberta Court of Appeal and the Alberta Court of Queen’s Bench on a wide array of employment and labour matters. John represents clients in litigation proceedings on issues such as wrongful dismissal, disability plans, employment contracts, compensation/share arrangements, breach of fiduciary duties and employee confidentiality. John also advises clients on executive employment compensation, incentive plans and severance entitlement and assists with the combination and reorganization of employees in corporate mergers and acquisitions. John is the author of Human Resources Guide to Health Issues in the Workplace and a co-editor and contributor to Illness and Disability in the Workplace. John is currently completing a book entitled The Annotated Alberta Employment Standards Code, scheduled for publication in late 2015.
