Additionally, the firm is the Chilean member firm of the Multilaw and World Law Group international networks. The practice is co-led by Gonzalo Rencoret, who recently counselled Petroquimica Dow on a high-profile merger; Nicholas Mocarquer, who handles M&A, shareholder agreements, public tender offers and joint ventures; and corporate/M&A, banking and finance and capital markets specialist, Rodrigo de Alencar. Also key to the group are experienced partners Sergio Orrego and Felipe Rencoret, while at senior associate level, Bernardita Schmidt and Rafael Rencoret are the key figures.
Urenda, Rencoret, Orrego y Dörr‘s six-strong practice fields experts in the environmental law issues surrounding mining and energy investment projects, at both initial stages and in relation to EIA approvals and sectorial environmental permits. The firm’s compliance practice additionally assists with the prevention of sanctioning processes; and on the contentious side, the group acts in administrative sanctioning and reclamation procedures before the environmental, health and water authorities, as well as before the environmental courts and the Supreme Court. Ignacio Urrutia‘s experience includes eight years spent at CONAMA, with Sergio Orrego providing additional partner-level support. Macarena García and Javiera Vicuña are key associates.
Urenda, Rencoret, Orrego y Dörr‘s six-member department advises both domestic and foreign clients on mining projects from the very earliest stages, including mining title reviews, purchase options, financing, and joint venture and exploration agreements; other areas of note are royalty, streaming and easement agreements, along with water-rights’ titles, permits, reclamation actions and social permits. Heading the firm’s mining practice, Sergio Orrego focuses on mining, energy and natural resources, projects, and corporate and M&A work; he recently advised Royal Gold on the purchase of a mining project’s royalty rights. Fellow name partner Gonzalo Rencoret has broad mining practice expertise; and associate Verónica Roa‘s experience includes advising on numerous mining projects.
Urenda, Rencoret, Orrego y Dörr‘s six-member energy practice covers the full gamut of projects work, including risk analysis, due diligence for asset acquisitions, contracts, and strategic alliances and joint ventures; the team also assists with the environmental impacts of projects, obtaining permits, taxation, financing, corporate governance, and dispute resolution and administrative procedures. Sergio Orrego (‘excels in negotiation skills‘) regularly leads teams on major transactions, such as the creation of natural parks and innovative NCRE projects. Notable support is provided by Ignacio Urrutia (previously at CONAMA, the Government Environmental Assessment Service’s predecessor agency), and associates Javiera Vicuña and Macarena García. However, Sebastián García left in November 2020 to co-found García, Mayol, Sepúlveda, Correa Abogados.
With longstanding experience in project finance, the 10-member practice at Urenda, Rencoret, Orrego y Dörr advises a large number of foreign and local clients on the development and financing of projects involving power generation (particularly NCRE matters), mining, infrastructure and real estate, including contentious issues. Sergio Orrego has notable expertise in wind farms and run-of-the-river power plants; Gonzalo Errázuriz is a real estate project expert; Ignacio Urrutia is on hand for project-related environmental law aspects; and a partner since 2017, Felipe Rencoret is active in projects and infrastructure work.
