Chile > Dispute resolution

The seven-strong disputes team at full-service Prieto Abogados, although small, nevertheless constitutes a core practice area for the firm. Consistently acting before arbitrators and ordinary courts in disputes involving energy, construction, real estate and retail, the practice has experienced an uptick in contentious matters, particularly in regulated sectors such as insurance, transportation, healthcare, telecoms and banking. The team is led by seasoned litigator Fernando Samaniego, who has a certain focus on real estate and construction conflicts and anti-trust litigation, while also fielding the highly experienced partners Alberto González V (arbitration, particularly in real estate, construction and energy disputes) and Claudio Undurraga (utilities, energy, infrastructure and anti-trust litigation). At associate level, the key names are Juan Pablo Riesco (civil and commercial litigation and arbitration, bankruptcy and competition) and Cristóbal Jiménez (administrative, civil and commercial litigation; civil responsibility; and arbitration).

Chile > Projects and infrastructure

The sizeable, 20-strong department at Prieto Abogados fields experts in tender processes, construction and project development. The practice group has particular expertise in clean energy projects, as well as being experienced in the gas, water and sewage, mining and port sectors. Elevated to the partnership in April 2020, Nicolás Yuraszeck also became head of the projects and infrastructure department; M&A head Juan Tagle is also frequently active in the practice, as is senior partner, energy and arbitration specialist Claudio Undurraga. Further partner-level expertise is provided by corporate and energy head Fernando Bravo, and compliance leader José Andrés Pascual. Key senior associate support comes from the energy and natural resources-focused Camila Kutz.

Chile > Energy and natural resources > Electricity/oil and gas

Prieto Abogados‘ sizeable 20-member department has an established practice in the energy, gas and water and sewage sectors. It is experienced in advising developers and owners on clean energy projects, such as mini-hydro, photo-voltaic and wind farms. It also assists clients with the development of innovative technologies for the sector, including advice on energy storage, hydrogen fuel and renewables. M&A head Juan Tagle is also active in the energy and natural resources team, and Claudio Undurraga is an energy and arbitration specialist. Tagle advises on power plant construction, gas and electricity purchase contracts, joining ventures and bidding; he also has knowledge of the ports sector. Also key to the group are compliance head José Andrés Pascual, and recently appointed partner, projects and infrastructure head Nicolás Yuraszeck, who advises on construction projects, financing transactions, and contracts ranging from EPC and O&M agreements to fuel supply and transportation contracts. Experienced associate Camila Kutz is a name to note. Since publication the practice has been boosted substantially with the incorporation of a team from the former Baraona & Fischer comprising Federico Rodríguez, who arrives as counsel, and senior associates Andrés Maldini and Jorge Echeverría in March 2021; the group has particular experience in generation projects (solar, thermic and hydro), as well as mining (notably the lithium segment).
