Felipe Videla is a partner at Beccar Varela.

Career

Felipe joined Beccar Varela in 2011. He focuses on banking, corporate and financial law. He also has extensive experience in Capital Markets. He has participated in various corporate and banking transactions, including project financing for local and international clients, advising financial institutions and companies in complex debt restructuring processes, and assisting clients in solving corporate disputes. He has advised most of the leading banks in Argentina. He has advised local and international clients on transactions such as debt securities, syndicated loans, IPOs, tender offers, trusts, pension funds, investment vehicles and asset management, SPVs, and sale of asset portfolios, among other areas.

Felipe has also advised local and international clients on the fulfillment of their registration requirements, disclosure, and other obligations before the local SEC (Comisión Nacional de Valores) and on different proceedings initiated against clients by the local SEC, such as disciplinary proceedings. Felipe has also assisted clients in all types of business arrangements, including joint ventures, commercial contracts, shareholding matters, etc. He has acted as internal counsel in several companies in the representation of the firm.

He is a member of the Buenos Aires Bar Association and the International Bar Association. Furthermore, Felipe is an active contributor to the firm´s pro bono program and a member of the Pro Bono Commission of the Colegio de Abogados de la Ciudad de Buenos Aires.

Education

Felipe obtained his Law degree from Universidad Católica Argentina (graduated with honors, 2010) and his Master’s degree in Economic Business Law from the same university (graduated with honors, 2021). In 2008 he participated in an exchange program at the University of Illinois at Champaign-Urbana. Additionally, he pursued post-graduate studies in Banking Law and Finance from the Universidad Católica Argentina and the Universidad Austral.

He worked as a foreign associate at Mattos Filho, Veiga Filho, Marrey Jr. e Quiroga (Sao Paulo, Brazil, 2016).

Felipe taught Tort Law at the Universidad Católica Argentina and Corporate Law at Universidad de Buenos Aires.

The Beccar Varela banking and finance team is known for its transactional capability, with experience in cross-border financing and refinancing deals with complex underlying collateral structures, as well as corporate, project and asset financings. Advising on the foreign exchange implications for bank lending is another busy area, with the practice also at the forefront of regulatory matters in the fintech space, and active in the fast-growing sustainability-linked loan and bond markets. Pablo Torretta, Luciana Denegri, Daniel Levi and Maximiliano Nicolás D’Auro jointly-lead the practice, which also continues to draw on the vast experience of veteran M&A and banking partner Roberto Fortunati. Torretta brings extensive forex, restructuring and international financing experience to the table, with Denegri an influential figure in the development of Argentina’s sustainable finance ecosystem. D’Auro, who is also prominent in the firm’s compliance practice, advises banks on financing, refinancing and regulation; while Daniel Levi, who leads the firm’s fintech group, played a leading role in Ualá’s pioneering purchase of Wilobank, the first acquisition of a bank by a fintech in Argentina. The practice strengthened its senior ranks in 2022 with the partner promotions of refinancing and restructuring expert Felipe Videla and Lucía Degano, the latter of whom heads operations in the firm’s regional office in the free trade zone in Uruguay. Beccar Varela handles financial restructurings and bankruptcy and insolvency proceedings for international and national clients across a range of industry sectors. The team covers out of-court negotiations, prejudicial proceedings, credit recovery, insolvency and bankruptcy reorganisation proceedings, and debt restructurings. Litigation is another strong area, with the firm managing a large portfolio of proceedings, including cross-border matters, at provincial and national level. Martín Gastaldi is a well-known insolvency, bankruptcy and dispute-resolution expert. He leads the team alongside private equity practitioner Tomás Allende and banking specialist Pablo Torretta.
