Career

Luisa Núñez has experience in Corporate and Financing areas, Corporate matters, Cross-border Transactions involving finance transactions (both corporate and project finance), Capital Markets, Mergers and Acquisitions and Joint-ventures. She has worked extensively in projects involving regulatory authorities in the Chilean securities and public works concessions areas. She has represented a range of clients including multinational corporations, banks, financial advisers and monoline insurers. Ms. Núñez is the titular professor of the Financing and Derivative Transactions course in the Master in Business Law at the Law School of the Adolfo Ibáñez University. From the year 2005 to 2006 she pursued an LL.M. degree at Columbia Law School, which included a Project Finance course from the MBA Program at Columbia Business School. During the years 2006 and 2007 she worked as a foreign intern with the Project Finance Team at Debevoise & Plimpton, LLP, New York office. She joined Claro & Cia. in 1999 and became partner in 2011.

Claro & Cia.'s group is highly rated for multi-lateral and cross-border financing, including high-value loans and project financing for hydro projects, renewables, thermo-electric and combined-cycle power plants, transmission lines, and oil and gas pipelines; it also assists with insurance and reinsurance matters, including financial guarantees, and regularly works alongside the firm's M&A, private equity, corporate restructuring, corporate finance and structured finance practices. The client list includes AES Gener, The Bank of Tokio - Mitsubishi UFJ, Itaú-Corpbanca, Citigroup Global Markets, Deutsche Bank Securities and Compañía Sud Americana de Vapores. Highlight mandates saw the team advise electricity producer and distributor AES Gener, as sponsor, on the restructuring of the $3bn financing of hydroelectric project Alto Maipo; assist the New York-based Glenfarne Group with a $300m mezzanine financing of equity obligations to fund new investments in the Americas; and act for Natixis (New York Branch) as lender, mandated lead arranger and administrative agent, in the amendment and extension of a $50m bridge loan granted to Cerro Dominado. Practice heads Rodrigo Ochagavía and José María Eyzaguirre B. direct a group with a number of other highly-regarded advisers, notably: Jorge Martín, Felipe Larraín  and Luisa Núñez, along with José Luis AmbrosyJuan León  and Ariel Mihovilovic.

Claro & Cia.'s 16-strong, highly-rated, project finance and development practice advises on the development, construction, operation, acquisition, divestment, ownership and financing of energy and infrastructure projects; it also acts in project-related disputes. Clients include AES Gener, Intervial Chile, Glenfarne Group, Energía Llaima and InterEnergy Holdings; recent matters saw the team act for Alto Maipo (and sponsor AES Gener) on the $3bn refinancing of a 531MW hydroelectric project involving two run-of-river facilities. It also assisted Deutsche Bank Securities, as lender, with the $115m financing for 12 photovoltaic (PV) projects. 'A standout practitioner' who is 'deeply experienced', practice head Rodrigo Ochagavía focuses primarily on project finance and transacctions, especially in regulated sectors; other key advisers include Jorge Martín (concessions and transactional project matters), Luisa Núñez (cross border corporate and project finance, energy), José Luis Ambrosy (corporate and project finance) and Ariel Mihovilovic (energy and project finance).
