Stephan is a partner and Head of the Environment and ESG Groups and part of the Dispute Resolution Group at CMS Chile. He has worked as a civil, commercial and administrative litigation lawyer for the past 11 years, focusing his practice on environmental litigation matters, in courts and before administrative authorities.

He has represented several national and foreign companies, in litigation and arbitration, obtaining favorable results before the Courts, Courts of Appeals, Supreme Court, Arbitral Tribunals and the International Court of Arbitration (ICC).

Active in projects requiring government authorisation, CMS Carey & Allende‘s three-member team regularly interacts with regional communities and other stakeholders; is experienced in the EIA system concerning mining, power plant and high-voltage power line projects; and assists with procuring various environmental permits. The firm has also developed an environmental disputes and litigation practice that benefits from in-house administrative law expertise. Promoted to partner in January 2021, Stephan Lührmann (at Urrutia & Cia until 2019) oversees the group’s environmental and regulatory litigation work; and associate Manuel Ponce focuses on mining and water rights. Former senior associate Aldo Poblete left to establish his own firm in June 2020.

CMS Carey & Allende‘s six-strong litigation practice is expert in disputes involving construction and engineering, energy and natural resources, post-M&A issues, torts, IP infringement and consumer protection. The team is also sought out for its experience in bankruptcy and white-collar crime and has recently developed an insolvency sub-practice to handle reorganisations and similar matters. With over 12 years’ experience of litigious and arbitral practice, Rodrigo Campero (who made partner in 2019) leads a practice group which also includes Stephan Luhrmann, appointed partner in January 2021 and who leads the regulatory litigation and environmental areas.
