Career

Ariela is among the most prominent litigants in our country. Leader of the Civil and Arbitration Group and Public Law and Regulated Markets, she has taken our legal team to the next level. Her practice areas include international law, civil and commercial litigation, antitrust; Advertising Law and Intellectual Property, including trademarks, patents, copyrights; information technology, licenses, specialized litigation in these matters, and pharmaceutical regulation.

Major publications and rankings such as Chambers & Partners, Best Lawyers, World Trademark Review, Managing Intellectual Property and IAM regularly distinguish Ariela’s outstanding work. Leading Lawyer by Legal 500 and in 2016, she was listed among the world’s Top 250 Women in Intellectual Property by the prestigious ranking IP Stars of Managing Intellectual Property.

She is a lawyer from the University of Chile and has a Master of Laws from Florida’s St. Thomas University, and was until December 2016 President for the Americas of the Global Advertising Lawyers Alliance (GALA). She is an Ethics Judge at the Chilean Bar Association and also an active member of the International Trade- mark Association (INTA) where she is currently Chair of the Committee on Emerging Issues and was also the Sub Committee Chair on Legislation and Regulation for Latin America. She is also a member of the latter Committee of the Inter-American Association of Intellectual Property (ASIPI).

Albagli Zaliasnik‘s seven-strong public law, competition law and regulated markets practice fuses expertise in antitrust law, regulatory matters, complex litigation and preventive antitrust advice, with prolific IP and technology specialisms. Typical work for the ‘efficient and agile‘ team encompasses compliance programmes, merger-control issues, market studies conducted by the FNE, antitrust and cartel investigations, and lawsuits before Chile’s Competition Court and the Supreme Court. The department is co-led by name partner Gabriel Zaliasnik and Ariela Agosin, whose broad litigation practices include antitrust law. The track record of key senior associate Matías Edwards includes high-profile cases involving the retail, pharmaceuticals, energy, and telecoms markets.

Chile > Consumer and advertising law

Albagli Zaliasnik is the sole Chilean-member firm of the Global Advertising Lawyers Alliance, which provides access to law firms in over 65 countries, and the practice represents several large companies -such as Snap Inc- with regard to their advertising law needs. IP leader Eugenio Gormáz heads up the consumer and ‘ad-law’ team, while senior partner Ariela Agosin leads the disputes group. At senior associate level, Dafne Guerra handles day-to-day consumer law work; and Juan Pablo Zamora and Antonia Nudman both assist with advertising law matters. At the more junior end, Gonzalo Bravo rounds out the practice group.

Chile > Dispute resolution: litigation

The civil litigation and arbitration group at Albagli Zaliasnik acts for clients from a range of sectors, including retail, insurance, finance, transportation, logistics, energy, real estate, and construction. The 11-strong team additionally litigates disputes involving unfair competition, IP, consumer protection and corporate law, as well as telecoms and technology-related claims. In addition to IP and competition matters, Ariela Agosin‘s practice covers civil, commercial and regulatory litigation, and founding partner Gabriel Zaliasnik is a renowned criminal litigation specialist. December 2022 saw civil litigation and arbitration expert Francisco Fuentes promoted to director; while at senior associate-level, Josefa Larraín arrived from Philippi Prietocarrizosa Ferrero DU & Uría in August 2022, replacing former senior Carolina Escandón  who departed the firm the same month.

The eight-strong IP department at Albagli Zaliasnik is experienced in digital and internet rights, copyright, trade marks, patents, and anti-piracy issues. The team also advises on IP licensing, and industrial and business secrets. A partner since 2020, IP group director Eugenio Gormáz routinely assists with the protection of industrial property rights for retail, pharmaceutical, telecoms and transportation sector clients. Litigation head Ariela Agosin also maintains an active IP practice; and at senior associate level, Antonia Nudman‘s practice focuses on the defence and protection of intangible assets, along with new technologies, software, trade marks, patents, and domain names. In late 2022, former senior associate Juan Pablo Zamora departed to found his own firm.

Albagli Zaliasnik‘s multidisciplinary life sciences practice routinely acts for major national and international pharmaceutical companies on both regulatory and patent infringement issues. The group’s offering covers the implementation of crime prevention programmes, antitrust expertise, and regular interactions with Chile’s health authorities. Its specialisms further include biotechnology, medical devices, cosmetics, and food-processing regulations and litigation, along with chemical law, R&D, clinical trials, and technology transfer and commercialisation issues.
