Career

Ernest practices in all areas of corporate and commercial law, with particular emphasis on mergers and acquisitions, private and public offerings of debt and capital (with listings on the Bermuda Stock Exchange, NASDAQ, the NYSE, the AIM Market, as well as the Singapore Stock Exchange and the ASX), telecommunications (where he is the principal advisor on regulatory and corporate issues for the primary international carrier in Bermuda, as well as a national carrier, cable broadcaster and internet service provider) and insurance (advising on the establishment and regulation of Bermuda insurers, brokers and managers), together with investments in such entities.

From 1983 to 1986, Ernest was employed as a legal advisor in a mutual Shipowner’s Insurance Company based in London.

Ernest joined the firm’s legacy partnership of Hallett Whitney Patton in 1986 and became a partner in 1987. He became head of the Corporate Department when Hallett Whitney & Patton merged with Cox & Wilkinson in 1998 to form CHW. He has served as the firm’s Managing Director since 2015.
