Mr. Busch is Chair of McGuireWoods’ Toxic Tort and Environmental Litigation Department, and until January 2013 served as a member of the firm’s Executive Committee and Board of Partners. He defends complex litigation and class action claims. He served as national trial and coordinating counsel for a public forestry products company in asbestos litigation for more than twenty-five years. He presently serves as national counsel in defending catastrophic personal injury and death claims for a polyurethane foam manufacturer. Mr. Busch is presently lead trial and coordinating counsel for a national medical imaging company defending over 150 claims arising from the administration of contaminated epidural steroid injections made by New England Compounding Pharmacy, which is part of the largest outbreak of fungal meningitis in U.S. history. In 2014, Mr. Busch obtained the dismissal of a public company in the last of a series of lawsuits in Delaware state court filed by more than 374 plaintiffs including 153 children born in Argentina with various birth defects and developmental problem as a result of alleged exposure to herbicides and pesticides used in the cultivation of tobacco in Argentina. Mr. Busch also handles wine and beer franchise litigation for a variety of clients. Mr. Busch’s standing in the bar is well recognized. He served as President of The Virginia Bar Association in 2010, and was elected as a Fellow of the Virginia Law Foundation in 2012. In 2013, he was elected as a Fellow of the American Bar Foundation. He also is a member of the prestigious Boyd Graves Conference, an elected group limited to 100 lawyers and judges who promote law reform for civil litigation in Virginia.

Stephen Busch acted for Universal Corporation and Universal Leaf Tobacco as lead trial counsel and coordinating counsel in several lawsuits alleging that exposure to herbicides and pesticides used in the cultivation of tobacco in Argentina caused birth defects in children. In other work, practice head Diane Flannery is representing Lumber Liquidator as lead counsel in 140 class actions relating to the sale of Chinese laminate flooring containing high levels of a carcinogenic chemical.
