Marcelo Mattos focuses his practice in the areas of Banking and Finance and Infrastructure, with expertise in several industries including oil and gas, shipping and mining. He is also a recognized expert in the area of maritime/naval law.

Mr. Mattos works with a number of prestigious financial institutions including DNB Bank ASA, Caterpillar Financial Corporation, Mizuho Corporate Bank, SunTrust, Macquarie Bank, Nordea Bank Norge ASA, DVB Bank and WestLB Bank, representing them in various transactions and projects.  He is adept at working with multilateral agencies, which includes assisting the International Finance Corporation (IFC) for nearly two decades.  Mr. Mattos also has considerable experience working with the Japanese Bank for International Cooperation (JBIC), the Export-Import Bank of the United States (EXIMBANK), the European Investment Bank (EIB) and the Nordic Investment Bank (NIB).

Clients repeatedly retain Mr. Mattos for his expertise in privatization where he has nearly 20 years of experience working with major public electric, gas and telecommunications companies.  He has also represented international companies in the public bid process before the Brazilian government’s various branches and subdivisions.

Mr. Mattos’ expertise in shipping finance is unparalleled and he has been key in building and training the shipping finance team in the Rio de Janeiro office of Veirano Advogados.  He advises several global lenders, ship owners and shipyard owners, as well as private financial agents on financing for the construction of vessels, platforms and shipyards in Brazil.  This includes working with the Brazilian Development Bank (BNDES) to obtain financing from the Marine Merchant Fund.

Mr. Mattos spent nearly two years as a foreign associate at White & Case in New York in the late 1990’s where he gained experience in how the legal market in the United States operates.
