Career

Felipe Bastos is a partner of Veirano Advogados specialized in dispute resolution, with emphasis on legal disputes, arbitrations, negotiations and mediations involving highly complex issues, besides insurance and reinsurance practice.

With practical experience representing clients in a variety of lawsuits in almost all Brazilian jurisdictions, Felipe practices intensely by counseling national and foreign companies, mainly in the areas of commercial litigation, corporate litigation, corporate and commercial contracts (construction contracts, EPC, agency, distribution, franchising, representation, services and joint ventures, among others), insurance and reinsurance, civil liability, public bids and government contracts, as well as in international transactions and disputes in general.

Felipe has extensive experience representing clients in appellate level before courts, assisting with strategic definitions, filing of appeals and other forms of impugnation, as well as in oral statements.

He also assists private companies in bidding processes for national and international tenders conducted by Brazilian authorities at federal, state and municipal levels, and by state-owned companies, their subsidiaries and affiliates. In such context, Felipe has extensive experience guiding private companies in review cases of awarded contracts, especially in the oil industry.

The specialized publication Legal 500 Latin America has been recognizing Felipe since 2012 in the Dispute Resolution and Insurance practices, highlighting him as an ‘up-to-date’ attorney, ‘fully committed to his clients’ and ‘very creative’.

Felipe also has garnered recognitions from the Brazilian publication Análise Advocacia 500, which in its 2016 edition appointed him as one of the “Most Admired Attorneys of Brazil” for his outstanding practice in Civil Law. He was also ranked in the 2nd tier in the Machines and Equipment sector, as well as in the 3rd tier in the Chemical and Petrochemical sector.

Recently, the department saw an increase in mandates pertaining to class actions, construction disputes and contentious issues arising from distribution agreements. Other areas of activity included assisting clients involved in lawsuits against public entities and matters coming out of the Covid-19 crisis. Practice head Felipe Bastos acts for Brazilian and foreign clients in commercial and corporate litigation. Rosangela Delgado has extensive experience in product liability, contractual and regulatory issues. Priscila Sansone is also noted for contractual and tort law. Since publication, the team has been further strengthened with the hire of Diego Capistrano -formerly a senior associate at BMA – Barbosa, Müssnich, Aragão– as a partner in the Rio de Janeiro office; in addition to his disputes practice, Capistrano is also active in bankruptcy and restructuring matters.
