Career

Maria Christina regularly assists a host of entities – companies, associations, financial institutions, multilateral agencies, governments and non-governmental organizations – in legal matters encompassing environmental, sustainability and climate change. Her practice covers a broad range of works, including consulting, litigation and relationship/negotiation with environmental authorities on many fronts: industry, forestry, real estate, energy (solar, wind, thermal, hydro and biomass), O&G, sanitation, mining, agribusiness and financial services, among others. Maria Christina’s vast experience also includes sustainable finance, ESG criteria, infrastructure projects (ports, highways, waterways and airports), crisis management and indigenous peoples.

According to the specialist publication Who’s Who Legal, Maria Christina is an “environmental expert who is adept at dissecting complex problems to provide simple yet robust and well-founded solutions” for her clients. Chambers Latin America describes Maria Christina “as a pragmatic and objective lawyer who stands out for her technical quality”.

With additional recognitions from Chambers Latin America, Euromoney, Analysis Advocacia 500 and Analysis Advocacia Mulher, she has spent many years of her career in a leading Brazilian corporate law firm. From 2007-2008, she served as a visiting foreign lawyer in the Houston office of the renowned North American firm King & Spalding.

Chevening Scholar, Maria Christina holds LL.M. from University College London and Post-Graduation in Environmental Management from the State University of Campinas (UNICAMP). LL.B. from the University of São Paulo (USP) and recently completed a course in Sustainable Finance with a focus on ESG at the University of Cambridge.
