Career

Matthew specialises in finance and financial regulation. He has advised lenders and corporate borrowers on a variety of bilateral and syndicated facilities. He has also advised on acquisition finance and other forms of leveraged finance transactions, including cross-border and local transactions with comprehensive security packages with international and South African components. He has been involved in significant financing transactions in the mining and resources, construction materials, gaming and healthcare sectors and the acquisition financing of transactions undertaken by local private equity houses. He has advised financiers and borrowers on structured loan financings for rolling stock and marine assets throughout Sub-Saharan Africa, including South Africa, Namibia, Mozambique, Mauritius and Kenya.

Matthew has also advised various South African subscribers in relation to preference share funding – his experience also includes corporate and tax aspects of these transactions.
