Position

Nick Hockens concentrates his practice on the representation of developers, institutions, and non-profit organizations before the New York City Planning Commission, Board of Standards and Appeals, and Landmarks Preservation Commission. He represents clients in a variety of New York land use and zoning matters, including re-zonings, special permits, variances, designations and alterations of landmarked buildings, and air rights transactions.

Particularly active in New York and Florida, Greenberg Traurig, LLP is instructed by landowners, joint venture partners, and entrepreneurs in every phase of real estate projects, and also advises property owners on all the regulatory issues affecting the use of properties, a role involving close collaboration with the firm’s government law and policy teams. The team has experience of a wide variety of projects, including health, retail, hospitality, leisure, entertainment, and coastal projects. In late 2018 the firm was instructed by Amazon to manage the aftermath of the aborted roll-out of its HQ2 project in Queens, following fervent local opposition.
