Position

Michael is partner of Maples and Calder’s Corporate team in the Maples Group’s Cayman Islands office. Michael’s expertise covers all aspects of corporate and securities law, including IPOs, mergers and acquisitions, joint ventures, SPACs and a broad range of banking, structured finance and capital markets transactions.  His practice focuses on the energy industry and public company listings and corporate governance.

Career

Michael joined the Maples Group in 2010 and was elected as a partner in 2014.  He began his career with Travers Smith in London before practising as an attorney at a Cayman Islands based law firm from 2002.  Prior to joining, Michael practised offshore law in Jersey for five years at an international law firm. He has been recommended in Legal 500.

As one of the largest groups in the Cayman Islands, Maples Group‘s corporate team advises on a vast range of takeovers, M&A, IPOs, SPACs, joint ventures, regulatory issues and general corporate and commercial advisory matters. Practice chair Matthew Gardner has considerable experience in public and private M&A, financings, IPOs, joint ventures and restructurings, while Suzanne Correy‘s focus is on structured finance, capital markets and investment fund transactions, especially in the Latin American region.
