David Elder is Chair of the firm's Communications and Privacy & Data Protection Groups, as well as a member of the Competition & Foreign Investment, Government Relations and International Regulation & Compliance Groups. David is recognized as an authority on Canada's Anti-Spam Legislation and is one of Canada’s leading lawyers in the areas of privacy, telecommunications and broadcasting. He currently serves as Special Digital Privacy Counsel to the Canadian Marketing Association. He has extensive experience gained in private practice, government and corporate settings, and has advocated on behalf of clients before the CRTC; Innovation, Science and Economic Development Canada; the Federal Court of Appeal; federal and provincial privacy commissioners and several Parliamentary Committees. David is editor of the blog CanadianCommunicationsLaw.com.
