Career

Susan handles all phases of patent and trademark litigation, including motions practice, discovery, claim construction, trial, and appeal. In the patent area, she has had particular experience against non-practicing entities, achieving dismissal of complaints, orders of transfer to the client’s jurisdiction, favorable claim construction rulings, stays of litigation pending reexamination, and early summary judgment. Susan was named an “IP Star” and one of the “Top 250 Women in IP” by Managing Intellectual Property.

For trademark clients, Susan conducts clearances, drafts opinions, prosecutes trademark applications, manages worldwide trademark portfolios, brings and defends enforcement matters, handles opposition proceedings before the Trademark Trial and Appeal board, and litigates in federal court. Susan has served as outside trademark counsel for some of the world’s leading brands, including Walmart, Apple, Volkswagen, DISH, Bosch and the United States Olympic Committee. She has been recognized as a leading lawyer by World Trademark Review 1000 in the areas of “enforcement & litigation” and “prosecution & strategy” (2015). She has also received recognition from The US Legal 500 in the area of “Intellectual Property – Trademarks: litigation” (2013, 2016-2017) and “Intellectual Property – Trademarks: non-contentious” (2014-2017).
