Government contracts Tier 4
Husch Blackwell LLP’s ‘extremely knowledgeable’ team is ‘on point in the government and M&A realms’ and its ‘subject matter knowledge is deep’. The team’s workload mainly encompasses bid protests and other contentious cases in the healthcare sector, among others. In the defense sector, practice head Brian Waagner defended Jacobs Engineering in two bid protest matters before the Government Accountability Office, regarding contracts for which the combined value is over $1bn. Hal Perloff leads the advice in a putative class action initiated by current and former residents of Atlantic Marine Corps Communities’ military family housing project at Marine Corps Air Station in Beaufort, alleging a failure to warn about adverse environmental conditions at the homes. A unique characteristic of the practice is the representation of contractors providing goods and services to the United States Parcel Service, for which David Hendel is responsible. Clients in this area include National Star Route Mail Contractors Association, vehicle manufacturer AM General and electronic postage provider Stamps.com. George Stewart joined in December 2018 from Watt, Tieder, Hoffar & Fitzgerald, LLP. Steven Neeley, who ‘does an exceptional job’, was promoted to partner in January 2018. William Hughes from the Milwaukee office ‘is the whole package’; ‘responsive, knowledgeable, humble and offers sage advice’.
Husch Blackwell LLP is a Midwest firm with significant inbound and outbound M&A experience on major transactions. The team acted for AMC Entertainment Holdings in its sale of a controlling interest in on-screen advertising company Screenvision Media to private equity firm Abry Partners. St Louis-based Matthew Schneider leads the corporate, M&A and securities practice.
Husch Blackwell LLP > Firm Profile
The lawyers of Husch Blackwell understand that deep legal subject-matter expertise is merely the first step in building strong client relationships. Our firm is dedicated to an absolute focus on client service, building knowledge of each client’s business and delivering measurable value. From offices in 18 U.S. cities we provide legal insight and business leadership that helps our clients identify smart solutions, advance their goals and move forward.
With predecessor firms stretching back over a century, Husch Blackwell has a deep commitment to and a shared history with the communities we serve. The firm’s current configuration is the product of a 2008 merger between St. Louis-based Husch & Eppenberger and Kansas City-based Blackwell Sanders Peper Martin to form a powerhouse Midwestern law firm. The firm has continued to expand its footprint throughout the Midwest since the merger, most notably combining with Texas-based Brown McCarroll in 2013 and Milwaukee-based Whyte Hirschboeck Dudek in 2016.
Rather than traditional legal practice areas, Husch Blackwell is organized around six strategic industries—Energy & Natural Resources; Financial Services & Capital Markets; Food & Agribusiness; Healthcare, Life Sciences & Education; Real Estate, Development & Construction; and Technology, Manufacturing and Transportation. This structure, implemented in 2012, provides the firm with the ability to field deep, interdisciplinary teams capable of quickly identifying the right skill sets required by each client’s unique legal and business challenges.
