White & Case LLP ‘s City M&A practice has seen a number of changes in 2021, with the firm adding Ferdinand Mason from Jones Day and infrastructure specialist Tim Sheddick  from Shearman & Sterling LLP, following the departure of former practice head Patrick Sarch to Hogan Lovells International LLP  early in the year. The team works with a  number of FTSE-listed companies, investment banks, and private equity funds on high value deals and has particular expertise in energy and highly regulated industries. Practice head Allan Taylor is noted for his natural resources expertise, regularly advising on metals and mining transactions, while  Alan Burke‘s track record in oil and gas matters have seen him leading on some of the biggest cross-border deals of the year. Hyder Jumabhoy co-heads the EMEA financial services M&A practice and regularly represents an array of blue-chip banks and fintech companies. Sonica Tolani‘s has advised on a number of European SPAC transactions, with Mason’s arrival further boosting the firm’s expertise in this field.

White & Case LLP has a strong power practice with ‘extensive experience of projects in both developed and emerging economies’, advising large energy companies and sovereign states on project financing and development. Led by Carina Radford, the group has an impressive geographical footprint across the Middle East and Africa, acting for sponsors and operators on renewable assets. ‘Excellent negotiatorMukund Dhar heads the Africa group and is recommended for transactional work for State entities, recently advising the Ministry of Finance of the Republic of Ghana. On the construction side, Richard Hill is a key name, while Jason Kerr advises banks and other financial institutions on international financing work. The team has made a number of internal partner promotions as well as the lateral hire Sandra Rafferty, who joined from CMS in mid-2020 and specialises in the infrastructure and energy sectors, in particular cross-border M&A. The partnership has also been strengthened with the addition of infrastructure duo Katie Hicks and Tim Sheddick, who joined from Shearman & Sterling LLP.

Known for advising on complex M&A, project development and infrastructure financing deals, White & Case LLP acts for a range of clients in the field, including financial sponsors, banks, utilities, corporates and government entities. The firm handles transactions across the spectrum of the infrastructure sector, from regulated and core utilities through to core plus infrastructure assets. Caroline Sherrell advises infrastructure fund and private equity clients on infrastructure transactions, particularly transport, energy and digital infrastructure matters. Her team continues its recent expansion and was further strengthened in 2021 by the arrivals from Shearman & Sterling LLP of Katie Hicks, who specialises in infrastructure acquisition financings and refinancings, and Tim Sheddick, who focuses on M&A and corporate advice. Their hires followed the 2020 addition from CMS, of Sandra Rafferty , who has experience in European infrastructure M&A. The team was further strengthened in summer 2021 by the addition of George Kazakov from Morgan Stanley Infrastructure Partners, where he was global investment counsel.
