Construction arbitration is a mainstay for White & Case LLP’s disputes practice. It has extensive experience in handling construction disputes arising out of global energy and infrastructure projects, including in downstream oil & gas, LNG and power. Based in London, David Robertson actively advises South Korean clients on disputes within and outside of the region and is the key practitioner for international arbitrations relating to construction and infrastructure. Matthew Secomb heads up the Asia-Pacific team and is an expert in the highly specialised LNG gas supply field. In August 2020, Mark Goodrich left the firm.

  • Rpresenting the Republic of Korea in two investment arbitrations: as respondent in a UNCITRAL arbitration under the US-Korea Free Trade Agreement, administered by the PCA and seated in Singapore; and as respondent in an investor-state dispute under UNCITRAL rules arising out of the investment by Schindler, the Switzerland-based manufacturer of escalators, moving walkways and elevators, in Hyundai Elevators, one of the largest elevator manufacturers in South Korea.
  • Representing the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in an ICSID arbitration brought against the Kingdom by Samsung Engineering, a major Korean contractor. The claim arose under the bilateral investment treaty between the Republic of Korea and the Kingdom.
