Work Department

Carl has over 18 years’ experience of dealing with personal injury claims including employer’s liability, public liability, property damage and road traffic accident litigation. He has specialised in road traffic litigation in recent years.

Carl leads the Eversheds’ Claims Authentication Team which specialises in defending clients against fraudulent claims. He has extensive experience dealing with staged accidents, induced accidents, claims involving phantom passengers, exaggerated claims as well as low velocity impact collisions.

Carl is recommended in the 2012 edition of The Legal 500, for: "excellent knowledge, clear advice and strength in negotiation".

Some examples of the types of cases Car has dealt with include:

  • Successfully repudiating an induced claim that involved a cloned stolen vehicle within days of instruction resulting in the stolen vehicle being recovered and savings in excess of £50,000
  • Investigating a fraud ring involving taxi drivers staging accidents resulting in claims being discontinued and achieving saving for our insurer client in excess of £100,000
  • Investigating a suspected staged accident involving an employee of our client’s company. Expert hand writing expert was used to prove that invoices had been written by the claimant himself resulting in the claim being struck out
  • Using social media to prove that parties in a suspected staged collision knew each other before the collision despite their evidence that they had never met

Carl also worked on the solicitor team to the Independent Jersey Care Inquiry for 16 months which was an investigation into allegations of historic child abuse within the Jersey care system
