Camilla has provided tax advice to the Financial Services Group since 1990. She has wide experience of advising on the taxation of all types of investment funds and in particular advises fund management groups on new product development.

Camilla's UK work includes the tax structuring for authorised unit trust and OEIC launches and reconstructions, for both securities and property funds. She also advises on unauthorised funds, including exempt unauthorised unit trusts. Offshore, she advises on the structuring and restructuring of both traditional and alternative funds, both open and closed-ended.

Recently, Camilla has worked on a number of substantial property authorised investment fund (PAIF) projects, both new launches and conversions of existing institutional and retail funds, following her role as lead tax adviser in the conversion of the Royal London Exempt Property Unit Trust into a PAIF in 2010. She was also involved in the asset transfers required during the reconstruction of the Henderson International Property Fund into two Aviva funds.

Camilla has contributed chapters to Tolley's Taxation of Collective Investment, as well as articles to journals. She has been involved in many industry initiatives and is currently playing a leading role on the tax committee of the Association of Real Estate Funds (AREF) working with HM Revenue & Customs resolving the capital gains tax issues arising with PAIF conversions, and also working with HM Treasury on their tax transparent fund initiative.

Possessing 'great business acumen', the tax team at Eversheds Sutherland (International) LLP has particular expertise in investment fund taxation, international M&A, real estate investment and tax risk insurance. Cathryn Vanderspar heads the London group and advised UK Mortgages in relation to the establishment of a public securitisation structure backed by £590m of residential mortgages; a matter that required the implementation of an innovative, tax efficient cross-border structure. Camilla Spielman worked on the initial product design of the ACS/PAID master/feeder fund structure for Royal London Asset Management and advised on subsequent property tax issues. Ben Jones assisted SNC-Lavalin on the tax aspects of its £2.1bn acquisition and financing of WE Atkins.

Eversheds Sutherland (International) LLP's VAT group is noted for its 'good business acumen' in disputes and advisory matters. The practice is jointly headed by David Jervis and recovery claims expert Giles Salmond, and includes contentious tax specialist Stephen Yates. The team acted for Lookers, which is pursuing a claim against HMRC for compound interest payable on VAT over-payments in relation to historic car dealership bonuses. In another standout recovery claim, it continues to represent MG Rover Group in a case which was successful before the First-tier Tribunal and is now before the Upper Tribunal. On the non-contentious side, Camilla Spielman and John Buckeridge advised the Local Government Pension Scheme (LGPS) on the application of VAT on services used by the LGPS Fund, securing a VAT exemption.

Starting January 1st, 2013, a new tax law (Law No. 822, Tax Concertation Law) came into force in and completely changed the taxation system in Nicaragua. Two years later a new law was issued by the National Assembly containing more than 80 amendments, additions and repeals (Law No 891) which came into force December 18th, 2014.
