David is a Senior Associate in the Financial Services Disputes and Investigations Group of Eversheds. He advises on all aspects of contentious and regulatory financial services and has a particular expertise in international sanctions, on which he has drafted articles, provided lectures on and has often been quoted in national and international press.

He acts for a range of multinationals and financial institutions, as well as individuals. David’s recent experience includes:

• Acting for two individual in regulatory investigations.

• Advising a global merchandiser of commodities in respect of its obligations arising out of international sanctions

• Acting for a multinational bank in respect of a review of the sale of interest rate hedging products.

David also has substantial experience in shipping and international trade, where he has advised on transactional and contentious matters in respect of the trading, transportation and financing of hard and soft commodities. Recent matters on which David has advised include:

• Acting in an ICC arbitration for the owner of the largest standalone sugar refinery in the world.

• Acting in two parallel ICC arbitrations pursuant to disputes under EFET contracts.

• Acting in an UNCITRAL arbitration under a contract for the construction of LNG blending facilities.

David is therefore uniquely placed to provide advice to both financial institutions and those engaged in the movement of goods around the world – this exposure is particularly of relevance in relation to international sanctions. He has experience conducting arbitrations pursuant to the rules of, amongst others, the ICC, the LCIA, the LMAA, UNCITRAL, GAFTA and FOSFA and litigation in the High Court and Court of Appeal, as well as engaging in regulatory investigations.
