Melanie is a legal director in our financial institutions group, specialising in financial services regulation.

Her focus is on advising international banks, investment managers and other financial services clients on the implications of various UK and EU financial services legislation and initiatives including: the Markets in Financial Instruments Directive (MiFID), the Capital Requirements Directive and Regulation (CRD IV), the Alternative Investments Fund Managers Directive (AIFMD), the UCITS Directive, the European Market Infrastructure Regulation (EMIR), the Payment Services Directive (PSD), the Senior Managers Regime and on regulatory developments.

Melanie has also advised financial services clients on remuneration, corporate governance, compliance, legal and regulatory risk management, shadow banking, such as crowdfunding and peer-to-peer lending, and various FinTech matters.

Melanie originally qualified in New York and has over fifteen years of experience as a lawyer. Prior to returning to private practice in 2013, she spent over nine years working in-house at various financial services institutions and at an industry trade body. This experience has given her a first-hand understanding of the industry, enabling her to provide technical yet commercial advice.

Melanie is a board member of a credit union in Kensington & Chelsea that she helped found and continues to advise on a pro bono basis through her position as compliance director.
